Hi

I hope there isnt already a thread somewhere about this. Ive been using Commsec for about 2 months now and I wanted to know if Etrade has any advantages. I notice that it is quite pricey at $32.95 a trade compared to $19.95 on Commsec. Is it worth it? Do you get recommendations and better research? I dont seem to get recommendations on a given stock (Buy hold etc) on Commsec. Im not on ProTrader

Thanks

Any ideas?

I'm thinking of starting the whole trading shares business soon, but starting up proving to be more tricky than it should be; or maybe it's just my ignorance :)

G'day apra (as an aside, your namesake is the bane of my existance at the moment).

I primarily use commsec, and whilst I've never used Etrade, I can happily say that commsec does everything I need it to.

Interactive Brokers has begun offering Australian Shares recently and are quite popular. Brokerage on small parcels appears to be much cheaper using IB than even commsec.

hi,
i am using Etrade almost 6 months now, they do offer better research and some analyst reports.
But if you are looking for investing not trading for short term, personally i think etrade will offer more research for you.
I am loooking forward to change broker as now i am mainly trading short term need to find someone that can offer a better brokerage.

If you can open a CDIA Account with Comsec/Comm Bank you then get discounted brokerage but you need $5000 to open the account but its worth it if you are going to trade with comsec.
I used to pay $63.95 ($20K) on my trades and now with the CDIA it's $31.90 for the same size trade, helps the cash flow as I get to keep a bit more.

I don't have the % charge figures to hand but esy to track down on the comsec site.
Cheers

Commsec or etrade

Commsec vs. etrade... which one

a newbie on the forum and to stock markets, i already have a small portfolio and was wondering which is the better platform out of commsec or etrade or wether there is another out there that i should be considering. I wont be making a huge ammount of trades and was just wondering which one would be right for me!!!

also does anyone have any suggestions about fgl, i have some money in this and want to get out for a more volatile share, what should i be looking for with this stock????

cheers for any help

Re: commsec or etrade

4 years ago I wanted an online broker and picked Andrew West from the yellow pages. I have only looked at commsec and e*trade but consider andrew west has best features. Suggest you go to www.andrewwest.com.au and have a look for yourself.
Don't have an opinion on fgl as I packed them in a couple of years

Re: commsec or etrade

Have used etrade for the last few years and haven't been very happy with it.

I can't speak for ComSec but etrade is constantly having technical issues. My portfolio is nearly always inaccurate which forces me to look at my accounts to find total value and share numbers. I've been in IT for 7 years and cannot understand why the etrade site is so bad. It's got massive potential and lots of great features, is well designed but it's simply not accurate. I'd be interested to see what other users of etrade think.

BTW, I tried three times to move to move to comsec but they never got back to me so it was "better the devil you know" for me.

that would be because e trade outsources there in house tech support. hello India not long now...I will be moving to ComSec shortly.

Dude (sorry names too long LOL),

Nearly ALL companies outsource their support but that has no bearing on the site. For the record etrade support staff are Currently "aussies" If that changes I may jump ship, but at the moment it's "better the devil you know".

As someone who's recently exited the IT industry after nearly 8 years, I've seen many companies who've moved their phone support off-shore, return back after 12 months due to customers voting with their feet.

I'd be interested to know how you find Commsec.
