I had a bloke with $1,500 in fines including DD doing Com. service all he had to do was turn up for 5 days and it was all wiped.
Not bad for 1 week.

at least he turned up.

if he'd gone to gaol he'd have cost us $30000 for the week and been rooted by a monster on the second night.

I was surprised at the two years non-parole period. Seems he is being made an example to others.

The whole thing is inexplicable to me. Why would anyone even consider lying when the fine was so paltry? And then to add layer upon layer of additional fabrication involving other people is beyond belief.

Seems pretty sad considering he had a fairly illustrious career including considerable voluntary contributions to the community.

Julia I've got a mate who's a Psychiatrist. He reckons Einfeld is a Narcissist. If you google narcissist it will give you some idea as to his mindset. They manipulate and have a sense of omnipotence and treat each engagement as a game, for or against their own good.

always do with a good jailhouse lawyer to help with them appeals etc etc

might even meet a nice young fella named bubba and live happily ever after

Umm, I know the characteristics of a narcissist.
Still doesn't make sense to me. I'd have thought he'd have tossed the fine notice to a secretary with instructions to pay it and that would be that.

Probably right, Nun. As long as he doesn't come across too many of those he has sent there.

The tax payers will be paying for 2 years to keep this 'creep' off the streets for lying about a speeding fine. A massive fine, say $500K or more would probably be better justice.

No one is above the law, but what benefit to the community is being served by locking this guy away. A warning to others ? Every drug mule you lock away or execute, another one does the same thing the next day regardless.

It's debatable, whether the punishment fitted the crime ... although while I don't rule against some jail time ... I was surprised by the duration. Yes , I agree lying in court is a very serious offense.

G'day weird, I'm thinking that the jail sentence is a pretty clear indication to judicial officers and lawyers in general that perjury is totally unacceptable. Knowing that our legal system and court relies on both parties presenting their case truthfully is a cornerstone of our system.

Let me suggest that for an officer of the court to break the rules so blatantly isn't a good look for the legal system as a whole. Not only are the courts concerned that justice has been administered, the court will also consider whether the "appearance" of the administration of justice has occured. This pretty much underpins our separation of powers doctrine - judiciary, executive, and parliament.

The deterrent factor would be pretty strong for anybody in the legal profession - get chucked in the slammer and you can pretty much kiss your legal career goodbye, forever.

Shows how strong Human emotions can be when they can convince this bloke he is above the law and paying fines is for the little people and over riding commonsense and as we can see emotional greed is the whole driving force behind this depression.
I guess living in an Ivory tower helped Iron Fell's downfall.

Reminds me of an old school buddy I hadn't seen for a long time. When I asked him what he'd been doing lately ...he replied "4 and a half years"

Apparently it was some issue with missing money from a trust fund, a habit with backing the wrong horses and a dalliance with the receptionist !
He used to have a thriving Law Firm..no he's prending to be a taxi driver from the sub-continent.

from living treasure to a person who has been convicted for his "planned criminal activity" for his "deliberate premeditated perjury"

"i have my bags packed" was his last statement to friends and family..

it appears the 82 paragraph 20 page statement describing how this fictitious dead person, teresa brennan had been driving his car.. had a big flaw in it. yes dead people cant drive cars.. so it didnt make it to mulders desk and become an X file

question is,, was it his first attempt at it,, and how did this sudden change in personality occur? will they dig deeper?

It was revealed on Four Corners tonight that Einfeld had done a similar thing on at least three previous occasions.

We are often accused of having a tall poppy syndrome. But when a holier-than-thou, pompous, arrogant, moralising do-gooder, who has been held up as a great "human rights activist", is found to have feet of clay, it is hard to suppress a feeling of satisfaction. Intense questioning on tonight's program exposed this man as a windbag and a liar.

In a similar vein we have never heard the true story about how another "Living Treasure" and "human rights activist " and windbag, Malcolm Fraser came to lose his trousers in Memphis.

It would be interesting to probe the background of some of the other so- called "Living Treasures"
