Eat, Drink and Be Merry...

well said WayneL... I actually made this similar vow at the start of the year... and tho i have put an odd comment in here or there... in general, when it comes to the such sort of discussions... its all rather pointless.

everyone is free to have their opinion... and good luck to you all. Its diversity of opinion that makes this world the beautiful, fascinating place it is.

Yes!!!!

The world is beautiful and fascinating. John Williamson noted this in "Cootamundra Wattles" - Heaven is all around us if you're looking; how can you see it if you cry.

Re hedonism. What can be wrong with the pursuit of pleasure?

But as any closet Taoist knows, too much of any one thing is not good.

Therefore sometimes we will be a hedonist, sometimes an ascetic.
Sometimes playful and sometime serious
Sometimes happy and sometimes sad.
Good is only good against a background of not so good
Warmth against cold
Light against dark
Intelligence against idiocy
Difficulty against ease
Yin against Yang

Today, I will eat simply, take some exercise, clean the yard, do some study, trade some futures, pay some bills; hardly hedonist. My wonderful weekend would be boring if I did that all the time, and the fancy food and wine would seem mundane.

As it is, I look forward to the next opportunity to be hedonistic, to contrast against my more normal asceticism.

Life is good.

For truly, tomorrow we all die, and you're a long time dead... and if the human race collectively wants to destroy itself, so be it, I'm going out in style...

...and with a smile.

Here, here!

Stockholm, mum and dad over from Aust, tabled booked for 19:30, in the sun, where we shall eat, drink, and be merry.

Oh wow! Cool as, wasn't Bunker Bar by any chance?

These long days are heaven. 9:22pm here in Stockholm, I'm in a little inner-yard at the hotel, no direct sunlight, and its still light enough to play cricket...alas, they don't play cricket here.

I hate this thread.

I'm on a fitness kick, and not drinking.

No I don't think it was bunker bar. I asked someone and they said it was barfota? I'm not sure, its about 900m North of the station.

I know a few people that work at pu ro at the marina.

Yep, "bare feet". Actually down IN the sand. Turns into a happening little bar later on in the evenings. If you hang a right where the Marina finishes and the promenade down to barfota begins I'm about 500 metres inland as the crow flies, just up the hill at the top of the ridge.

Nice. My mate lives nearby, the first pic is the view from his verandah at 10pm (that's Denmark 4km away). The second is the "boat" nightclub I got terribly drunk on my first night in Sweden. Was an awesome night!

So true.
This realisation is also called the "mid life crisis".

I just bought a new set of golf clubs and a new bike and have booked in for golf lessons. Also we have redone the back of our house so we can have friends over easier.

Still interested in world affairs, just laugh at it more rather than get pissed off.

Yes, we all know guys who have handled it badly!

Just thought I'd point out that there is a downside to eating, drinking and merriment.

I've just had a huge indulgent lunch, 4 pints od Kronenbourg 1664 (La Première Bière Française) and a whole block of Swiss chocolate; with the whole afternoon to come...

...and I can tell that the end will not be pretty. My stomach is protesting already. :bier:

Sounds ideal! I hope you had good company
