When the initial euphoria about the dentist going back to drilling and Springborg going back to his farm has evaporated, some attention might be paid to the highly irregular procedure here.
We have effectively now no opposition leader in Queensland, or a deputy.
Campbell Newman has been nominated as Leader of the LNP.
However, he has not even been preselected!!!
So an interim leader has had to be nominated, to keep the seat warm for when Mr Newman takes the seat of Ashgrove from the Labor member, and on the absolute assumption that the LNP will win the next election, despite Mr Newman not even being an elected member.
Can you even begin to imagine how much ammunition this will give Anna Bligh?
Even now, the moment Mr Newman has announced his intention, she has quickly and efficiently denounced him as the Mayor of Brisbane who 'cut and run' from his duties as Mayor.
And just think what mincemeat she will be rightly able to make of Jeff Seeney, (one of the most uncouth politicians ever) who is apparently going to be the interim political leader of the party with Tim Nicholls as his deputy, on the basis that they are mere seat warmers, not politicians of conviction etc etc.
Ms Bligh will have some good reason to suggest to the electorate that if the LNP cannot get its own house in order, then the notion they can govern Qld is laughable.
