Cash is what's needed mates.
Cash.
Give if you can to any of the caring organisations.

Too right, gg

And with our trading skills and successes: Aren't we in a good position to help in that regard? Regardless where we live, we can band together and chip in without having a plumbers license, heavy machinery, or even a broom.
Let me start the ball rolling and suggest this:

Everybody pick one particular "typical" trade, follow it from Buy to Sell (make sure it turns a profit without the need to average down and wait 5 years ), and donate the profit to the Premier's Relief Appeal.

Actually, my ball has been rolling last week:

and $448 went today into

BSB: 064 013
Account number: 1000 6800
Account Name: Premiers Disaster Relief Appeal

My accountant
Confirmed with ATO

That a SMSF can make a donation – so you can realize the gain – then claim the donation as an expense.
Any copycats out there? What are you waiting for?

Pixel, I'm becomming somewhat unsure that the Premier's fund is the best place to continue to donate.

While Anna Bligh did a magnificent job during the crisis, money management under her leadership has been a disaster in Qld, IMO.

There is now $84m in her relief fund. Aussies have been generous to help those in need, but does Qld labor actually have the ability to ensure those who need it will actually get it?

Found this posted elsewhere and shows the means testing to qualify for assistance. Can anyone verify if these restrictions are correct? If so, many who are in great need may miss out. Mortgages and other bills won't stop because of the disaster.

Bearing in mind that many people may have also lost their jobs temporarily due to their work places being damaged but would be considered to have an income as they are only temporarily unemployed.

Maybe the Salvos are better at distributing funds.

If you donate at Woolworths the money goes to the Salvos. I was more comfortable doing this than giving to the Premier's fund.

Thanks to you both for responding.
(and a big Thankyou to Joe for converting my suggestion into a sticky )

The point I tried to make was more about a way to increase donations with negligible impact on our bank accounts, less with one particular target.
If WOW double our donation, maybe that's one way.
If the Salvos have a better track record, give the proceeds to them.
I wish I had known about those two alternatives; maybe there's another trade

Now Let's Do It!

Great idea Pixel. I had the same thought until I discovered that Virgin Blue lets you donate your velocity points into the Premier's fund.

I didn't realise I had over 30,000 points... now all redeemed for a good course rather than some red wine.

Julia.

I thought about that after I donated.
The Govt must be rubbing their hands together all this money from outside making them look great in the relief effort!

How much have the public saved the Govt???

I had a sell order for Richmond Mining (RHM) at 50c the other day, and since 50c got hit, all proceeds from that sale were today donated through Woolworths to the flood relief effort, their dollar for dollar donation matching runs out at midnight tonight.

My work is also raising money for the floods but i was a bit disappointed when the regional manager wouldn't send around any info on woolies donation matching as he regarded it as advertising. They are currently donating $6.4million so probably deserve some advertising however you dont have to buy anything, just donate in store.

Consider donating to a campaign that is giving immediate help and not to funds that will become tied up in red tape and administration, may not be distributed for months and may not go 100% to the victims. The "buy caravans and donate them immediately to those that need a roof"campaign is one that I am donating to. Money can be donated to the caravan appeal to: Ballina East Lions Club Com Bank BSB062-502 A/c No 28013264. where all the money will be spent to buy caravans and accessories that will be sent to Grantham immediately.

I will guarantee to match dollar for dollar up to $5000 donated and specified as coming from this post.
