Do you take vitamin pills?
What sort - multi, specific groups etc.?
If you don't, why not?
If you do, what happens if you don't take them for a while?
Do you take them for a specific condition/reason?
Do you take them only when you 'feel run down' or whatever?

Holders of Blackmores, MLM participants etc. - No ramping!

Yep.

Coenzyme Q10----general
Fish oil.----Joints Stuffed Knees from years of Triathalons
Glucosamine---Same as Fish oil.
Antioxident Mix with selenium.----Just in case all the research is right! Have taken these for 25 yrs.

nope..zip..zero...
When I got a cold, I just rest, drink plenty of water and orange juice done back on feet in a few days
There is no substitute for the real diet.

Drugs company don't want to cure your problems...they prolong it so you dependent on drugs.

centrum + fish oil

no matter how good ur diet is you wont get all the vitamins respectably

I suffer from very bad migraines (had the current one for 10 weeks this Wednesday!) so everything I take is brain food.

My usual daily dose is:
Multi Vit/Mineral
Extra B's
Magnesium Oratate
St John's Wort
Fish Oil
Ginkgo Biloba

and if I'm having trouble sleeping I pop a Valerian. And yes, my vitamin bill is nearly as much as my brokerage fees

I beg to differ, if you are a healthy, why would you want those extra stuff in your body? do your body really need it?

You probably over load it and change your internal body organs to get addicted to these substances and if you don't take it you go crazy

I got a friend who takes those vitamin centrum that Long distance runner guys always advertise. If he doesn't take it now it make him feel tired so his body probably addicted to that stuff.

Enough said

I take Glucosamine, Chrondroitin, Fish Oil and a general multivitamin. I take the first three for joints after destroying joints, bones and ligaments in a accident (described in worst injuries thread). The multivitamin helps to supplement my diet so my body can continue to repair itself after surgery, which tends to happen too often (every few months).

I believe when taken in suitable amounts for the right reasons it can be extremely beneficial. On the other hand I know fitness fanatics that go over the top and take what their bodies don't need in large quantities.

Hi Aviator,

I have occasional migraine, the worse lasting 3 days. I never took coffee before, but started a few months ago (friend recommended) and it actually helps. Now I drink a cup a day just to avoid having a headache/migraine.

A good multivitamin is the foundation of health and nutrition. Following are the reasons one should be supplementing with a broad range of vitamins and minerals:

1. It is difficult if not impossible to consistently eat "three square meals a day." In addition, the quality of food in most people's diets is declining due to modern agricultural practices and increased consumption of highly processed and refined foods.
2. Myriad research reports clearly show that many supplements improve health and performance by supplying certain nutrients in amounts that are not obtainable from your diet alone.
3. Intense exercise creates a need for increased levels of nutrients, particularly antioxidants.

I wish that were the case with me Trinity. I used to llllllooooooovvvvveeeee my morning cups of coffee but that was one of the first things I had to give up a couple of months ago. Man was that hard, major withdrawl, but it did ease the migraines a bit.

Decafe sux!

No, I don't take Vitamin Pills, why, because it's a complete waste of money, time and effort.

If you do your research you'll find that vitamin pills go straight through you, ask anyone who works in the Human Waste Industry, the sewers are full of Vitamin Pills.

The only Supplements I take are Liquid Herbal Supplements which are called tinctures.

Now, since I discovered Dr Richard Schulze and Dr John R Christopher, I'm off all Pharma Drugs including my Asthma Medications which I had been dependant on for 30 Years.

In his videos on Google Video, Dr Christopher explains how you body can accept something, but will not assimilate it unless it is organic. Anything that doesn't come from a plant is inorganic and can't be assimilated into your body. Anything that has been heated more that approx 45 degrees kills all of the enzymes in your food and destroys much of it's nutritional value.

If you want to really turbocharge your body, eat Locally Grown, Raw Organic Fruit and Veges, if you want to Supercharge your body, Juice your Locally Grown, Raw Organic Fruit and Veges.

I'm currently on a 7 day Juice Fast, I lost 5kg's in 4 day's and am actually feeling pretty good at the moment until I have my next Healing Crisis.

Here is a really good summary of what happens to your body when you do a Juice Fast ==> http://www.healthrecipes.com/fast21.htm

Is weight loss your purpose because I was under the impression this discussion was about nutrient supplements? For the record your weight loss is not fat. No disrespect with the comment it is highely likely your loss has come from a general reduction in the amount of food sitting in your absorbtive tract and also ironically fluid loss if you have been reducing your Carb concentration. Every gram of carbohydrate stored in the human body (Liver and Muscles) holds two grams of water. This is why on the biggest loser they can lose stacks of weight in the first few weeks then plateu. Not having a dig by the way.

For the record I am not pro or anti supplements but perhaps the cases for either should be documented with a little more evidence. Perhaps some peer reviewed research articles might be in order to put this baby to bed.

ROFLMAO. What a load of ****. Sewers are full of vitamin pills hey! What a ramp!

BTW, what does "locally grown raw organic" actually mean? Fertilisers and pesticides used in organic farming are just as bad as non organic supplements. Just because they are from organic products does not mean they aren't toxic.

Are you familiar with the organic certification authorities and their differing standards?

You saying anything thats inorganic cant be absorbed into our bodies is absurd. If a compound can be synthesized in a lab to the exact make-up of a naturally occurring compound it cant be absorbed???

My uncle has been brainwashed by a pyramid scheme selling these ridiculous ideas and hands over his money for supplements which have convinced him he will live till 120! His health has deteriorated rapidly in the last year.

Ah yes kennas I love the "green-can dreamin!"

Mind you I get ridiculed for drinking the stuff in FNQ

They prob ridicule you coz it tastes like cat's pee.

Coopers Pale Ale for the real man.

*ducks for cover*

Can't confirm that one, don't have a cat nor would I drink its pee

I'm also a Coopers fan but only in colder weather... too hot here in FNQ

I couldn't think of a quicker way to not have a balanced diet than eating only local organic foods.

The great thing about our current food system is the diversity. Restricting it to local seasonal foods only will very quickly have your diet looking like that of the 17th century peasant.

Coopers Pale Ale for the real man.

Couldn't agree more..

Growing up an a SA boy 'Coopers' was always the preferred fluid, although to this day I'm still partial to West End.. can't get it here in the West though..

OT, I've recently tripped over the 40 line (not many thought i'd make it.. ) and as a young bloke was fairly ruff/tuff hard to bluff.. Spent a fair bit of time in the gym back in those days and always scoffed at the 'pill poppers'.

These days I still get to the gym everyday, however as I'm starting to get on (with the obligatory aches and pains) I'm not trying to bust my blurter with the stupidly heavy weights, more just maintaining fitness etc.. Anyway my wife recently started taking some stuff from Herballife(Sp??) and I noticed a difference in her general demeanor, attitude and, ehem, energy levels almost straight away, so I thought to myself I'll give it a go..

The upshot is I'm a convert.. I'm not entirely sure what I'm taking as I simply nick a couple of her vitamins each morning (I'm sure they're not prescription though ), but the difference they make to my day is fantastic. Perhaps it's all in my head, but I don't think so..

Regards,

Buster

Hey Aviator33, I am a lifetime migraine sufferer (thanks dad). Down to once every couple of years now. Also had a couple of bouts of level 9 Cluster Headaches - these are far worse than a migraine.

I tried Gingko, but it actually made things worse. Normally a vascular constrictor like a caffiene derivitive is the way to go, since migraines are usually diagnosed as too much blood to the brain - hence the coffee or Red Bull trick to try and abort or lessen the attacks.

Gingko does the opposite - it opens up blood vessels - particularly the smaller ones - hence the improved memory etc. So I would be interested to see how you go with Gingko, but for me - I had to stop.
