OK a simple poll for the few days - easy one
I mean "is there a god" is/was really broad concept
and "do you believe in evolution" was still a fraction broad, lol
this one is like - tossing a coin - (I think lol)
better make it a six sided coin - plus the "any other" option of course

Better define terms I guess

from christian background - includes anyone who has ever visited a church other than as a tourist lol (I mean , a Hindu visiting Winchester Cathedral doesn't count lol)

from non-christian - the others

Believe in Noah's Ark = generally believe in a flood, a man, his wife, his two sons and their wives, who rounded up animals, put them into a boat for a period of time and thus rescued them from drowning during a massive flood, thelikes of which we probably haven't seen before, and hopefully won't see again .
(hopefully that covers it - if not i guess explain the "other option"
- by all means have some fun with it
just let's not get all biffo about it )

I have been deliberately vague here . Some (minor) variation from the Genesis version permitted, (leave it to your imagination) - and still “believe in the Ark” – BUT I would have thought it should still qualify as “Saving the earth’s fauna”, yes?

eg the possibility of Noah’s account being inaccurate? still ok I guess
is he a reliable witness, was the flood less widespread as he claimed? – still ok I guess
(I mean - what was the distance to his horizon – ever from Everest you can only see a small percentage of the Earth,

and even from a 30m (100 foot) high boat , your horizon is only 16k (10 miles) away.

is he claiming to be Reuters when he is only the Jerusalem Herald (or it’s equivalent wherever he was living at the time). In summary, the flood may not have been as bad as he claimed – but still ok I guess

BUT
“believe in Noah’s Ark” – you can’t argue (in my opinion) that he was deluded, - that he took on board a couple of dogs, cats, even say a dozen species of local fauna, - and THOUGHT he saved the world’s species.

I mean you have to go along with the general thrust that it was a pretty big deal , this flood thing, and the big boat wow, and the animals etc . ok?

Noah's Second Ark

In the year 2004, the Lord came unto Noah, who was now living in the United States, and said, "Once again, the planet has become wicked and over-populated and I see the end of all flesh before me. Build another Ark and save two of every living thing along with a few good humans."

He gave Noah the blueprints, saying, "You have six months to build the Ark before I will start the ceaseless rain for 40 days and 40 nights".

Six months later, the Lord looked down and saw Noah weeping in his yard, but no ark.

Noah", He roared, "I'm about to start the rain! Where is the Ark?"

"Forgive me, Lord," begged Noah. "But things have changed. I needed a building permit. I've been arguing with the inspector about the need for a sprinkler system. My neighbors claim that I've violated the neighborhood zoning laws by building the Ark in my yard and exceeding the height limitations.

We had to go to the Development Appeal Board for a decision. Then the Department of Transportation demanded a bond be posted for the future costs of moving power lines and other overhead obstructions, to clear the passage for the Ark's move to the sea. I argued that the sea would be coming to us, but they would hear nothing of it.

Getting the wood was another problem. There's a ban on cutting local trees in order to save the spotted owl. I tried to convince the environmentalists that I needed the wood to save the owls. But no go!

When I started gathering the animals, I got sued by an animal rights group. They insisted that I was confining wild animals against their will. As well, they argued the accommodation was too restrictive and it was cruel and inhumane to put so many animals in a confined space. Then the EPA ruled that I couldn't build the Ark until they'd conducted an environmental impact study on your proposed flood.

I'm still trying to resolve a complaint with the Human Rights Commission on how many minorities I'm supposed to hire for my building crew.Also, the trades unions say I can't use my sons. They insist I have to hire only Union workers with Ark building experience.

To make matters worse, the IRS seized all my assets, claiming I'm trying to leave the country illegally with endangered species.

So, forgive me, Lord, but it would take at least ten years for me to finish this Ark.."

Suddeningly, the skies cleared, the sun began to shine, and a rainbow stretched across the sky. Noah looked up in wonder and asked, "You mean, You're not going to destroy the world?".

"No," said the Lord. "The government beat me to it."

then again it's also about the origin of species
it's also .... about how fervently we believe stories that are arguably myths - that are part of our semi-accepted "traditional beliefs"

do we really accept the accuracy of some of these stories?
do we really believe these "add-ons" to our belief.

I often talk to taxi drivers about this stuff lol. And believe it or not, most people love explainig their religion to you. They absolutely adore the bloke. I mean (assuming I got the story straight) he's a boy who has his head cut off due to an unfortunate misunderstanding with his father - and so they put an elephant's head on him. And he's ... just a great bloke - if a little strange looking.

Now - question lol
Does that taxi driver REALLY believe that such a person existed ?
Buddhism grew out of this , and even believes in Ganesh in some parts of the world as I understand it.

Likewise
Do "Christians" REALLY believe in the Ark.

At the end of the day
it matters more (does it not) whether a Buddhist believes in "tolerance"
and
whether a Christian believes in "forgiveness".

You could go and and ask "Is forgiveness healthy just for the person who does the forgiving, or does it also have an effect on the person forgiven?
(like Javert after Jean Valjean "forgives" him, is so overcome he jumps off a bridge lol).

As for "should we only talk trading"
- the plan is for this to be a lighter topic than what the shares are doing.

and in any case "my bets are on" - and I can't change anything over the weekend in any case.

PS I just get the feeling that the Hindu taxi driver gets his religious strength from "what this bloke represents" rather than questioning whether it "really happened". But Ganesh is central - all prayers start with reference to him ( as I understand it).

Is Noah's Ark like that ? I don't think it is, personally.
Even fairly devout Christians (in my experience) treat the Ark as a humourous (humorous?) joke, but still embrace the rest of the church's teachings.
No one is going to start a Christian prayer off with reference to Noah surely.

I was expecting something with more rooms than that - more like the size of the 5000 room "Circus Circus Hotel" in Vegas maybe
