So i accidentally had half of my 3 front teeth broken off on the weekend.

Does anyone have any experience with dental crowns? Cost, wear, maintenance etc?

Going to the dentist today and have been reading up on iot but just wanted to know if any members have personal experiences?
 

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, Prawn........... you are probably looking at upwards of $2,000 for each tooth. I have only had back teeth crowned, so perhaps they are more expensive than front... don't know, but these days to have a molar crowned is around $3,000.

On the upside, cosmetic dentistry is excellent these days.
 

Or he could take a holiday to thailand and pay bugger all

I had a friend that had an operation done for $10k in Thailand that was worth $50k here. Even had it checked by his dentist when he came back who mentioned it was excellent work.
 

All the research i have done has suggest cost of $900 - $1500 per tooth, but more if root canals are needed.

This makes it an expensive weekend away...
 
Make sure you get good quality post. look around over seas, here in the Philippines most dentist are trained over seas mine did her training in New York.

Yeh it happened Friday night when i was interstate so couldnt get to my dentist till today. I dont look a pretty picture at the moment thats for sure

Make sure you do the 'look like a crazy' toothless smile photo for future reference. Double points if you change your drivers license and passport photo.

Anyone aside from Ruby have some experiences with crowns? Or does everyone else just find it as funny as my mates do? :
 
My wife chipped one of her teeth and had a crown done last week. (back tooth)
Cost was $1800 less a rebate of $600, so cost was $1200.
Where she got it done is one of the dentist which charge a little more.( daughter & sons go there).
So obviously it can be done around maybe $900 as mentioned above.

Maybe don't assume crowns are going to be the only option? Someone has already mentioned cosmetic dentistry. I don't know anything about this other than the persuasive advts on TV.

I've had a couple of crowns but both were with root canals and total cost for each around $3000. Totally successful though.

Sounds almost identical to what happened to me. Nightmare.

The dentist had to put one crown in and managed to cap the other 3. Fine for a few years but then had to have the crown out because it was poorly fitted and starting to cause gum disease, there was also noticable discolouration of the caps.
Got a different dentist and she decided to remove the crown altogether and put a bridge over all 4. This might be another option for you but I think it costs more.
Great result though.

So they have built my teeth up to relatively normal while they wait to see if the roots are going to die (can take 3 - 6 months to know this). Dead roots = root canal, post & crown. Alive roots = crown over alive half teeth.

Max cost will be 5k in the worst case scenario so about what we expected when it happened
 
I want a blow by blow novel of how/where/when/intoxication levels of how this catastrophe played out !

My son smashed his 2 front teeth off at the skateboard park about a year ago. Early teenager so teeth are still growing. Went to the cosmetic dentist and about $2000 lighter and can not tell the difference from the originals. Going back in about 2 weeks time for the checkup and possible more work to be done due to teeth/mouth growing etc.. What amazed me is that he claims he was in no pain?? Crumbs !!!!!! It looked sore for mine.
