that is what you get when you pressure China with Green Agenda policies ( we used to just bundle it and ship it to China .. OOPS ! )

putting the load onto COL and WOW won't work either , you have universities full of academics who could be put to work looking for practical solutions ( already tax-payer funded )
 
Yes the waste management problem, is a bit like the clean energy problem, people rant and rave about wanting energy to be clean and everything to be recycled.
Yet most people don't try and reduce their energy consumption, or reduce the purchasing of packaged goods, they just want the problem solved. ?
The best quote in the article IMO, was this one:
Gayle Sloan from Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association said Australians needed to move away from our "throwaway culture".

"I think this is a wake up call for Australia to recognise that we can't continue with business as usual," Ms Sloan said.

"If people want to do the right thing, they should avoid the creation of the waste at first instance and stop buying products in soft plastics, like we actually need to avoid it."

Like that's going to happen.?

Too true, and the way it is done is not apparent until it is over. Can be
  • pro-rata
  • early close (TLG did this on me)
  • rewarding early applications
  • basic level allocation for all
  • with a methodology to reward LT holders
  • or some other calculation.
Essentially, the $30K is generous (was $15K, and $10K before that, and $5K in the '90s). And associated with placements, these days. Will it ever be lowered?

CWY up 15% to $3.01 at the close on rumours of a takeover by Seven group.

Seven seem to be an acquisitive lot lately. They are only just finishing up the Boral takeover.

CWY has had no real shareprice appreciation over the last few years. I hold and wouldn't mind exiting.
 
I guess 7 sees the writing on the wall for legacy tv and wants to diversify, while they have some borrowing power.

I don't think any of my kids are connected to free to air tv and competition for pay to watch is hugely competitive, it is only a matter of time before free to air and newspapers go the way of the dodo.

With regard CWY, I'm the same as you hold them and they've been a steady income, but at a reasonable price and now the waste issue is taking a back row to defense and global warming?
 
i was looking at them as 'a safe haven/infrastructure ' stock

but is not close enough yet , to tempt me to lob in an order

( i would rather CWY to one of those rail/toll road stocks for example )

I was going to jump in and opine that with a share price chart like SVW, why wouldn't you be acquisitive and acquire weaker performers on the market. A strong share price is like free money for acquisitions..

But then I saw that SVWs share issuance has been very modest and hasn't moved at all recently, up to end FY23. It's debt is high so I'm guessing that is what it typically uses for an acquisition? But its cashflow per share was the highest for a decade in FY23 and it can reasonably count on share issuance as a contingency back up I guess, if debt starts to put it in a tight spot. Superficially it seems to me the right time for SVW make acquisitions, given the above benign conditions?

Response to media speculation

Cleanaway Waste Management Limited (“Cleanaway”) (ASX: CWY) notes media speculation regarding a possible takeover offer by Seven Group Holdings Limited (“SGH”).

Cleanaway confirms that it is not in any discussions with SGH in relation to any form of corporate transaction or otherwise, nor has it received an approach or offer from SGH.

This announcement has been authorised for release by the Board of Cleanaway.

i do not hold this share ( but it is on my watch-list )

i do hold SVW

It was a very brief rally. Rumour came up right on the close yesterday and was denied before the open today.
Looks like just over 2m shares traded on the news.

HFTs got burned , perhaps ??

by the way several years back i held TPI debt notes ( which have since matured when TPI )
 
There hasn't been any takeover news since the rumour and denial in April.

Nevertheless, CWY has tracked quite nicely since. It's not too far below the high reached during the rumour spike now.

Interesting to see what happens when the annual results are released. I can't find a date for this.
