Spent 2 months there a few years ago, rented an apartment in the Obispo in Havana. It was pretty hairy, amazing time and wonderful people, but expensive if you have to use the tourist economy and difficult to get onto the local economy and currency (we managed to, but only because of the length of stay.)

Its unlike anywhere i have ever been in the world, and well worth a visit before its overrun by the americans - it will be forever destroyed by that.

Its also quite an eye opener to see the incredible and vindictive damage done to cuba by the americans secondary boycotting of even essential health and food supplies. They really are evil bastards when it comes to foreign policy.
