Russel Crowe has come up with the answer to the financial crisis in America and it seems OK to me. Give each American $1m cash. Says that it will stimulate the economy and not cost any more than the bail out. It certainly would get plenty of votes.

LOL

is that actually such a bad idea?

Prob is but can someone explain why.

I haven't had my morning coffee yet so i'm still a bit thick.

It would ruin the economy. Inflation would sky rocket and productivity would plummet as no one would work for years. And the banks would still collapse.

Tosser!!

Russell Crowe has an Oscar and is co-owner of the Sydney Rabbitohs rugby league team, but maybe his next job should be US treasury secretary.

The New Zealand-born actor announced, during a US TV talkshow appearance, a plan to cure America's financial crisis.

"I have been intently watching the political process," Crowe told talkshow host Jay Leno.

Crowe believes the US government should give each American $US1 million ($1.26 million).

His reasoning is the US has a population of about 300 million, so the $US300 million outlay is a fraction of the $US700 billion financial bailout package rejected by politicians in Washington DC yesterday.

"I was thinking," Crowe said.

"If they want to stimulate the economy and get people spending so they can look after their mortgage ... give everyone $1 million."

Crowe is in the US to promote his new spy thriller with Leonardo DiCaprio and director Ridley Scott, Body of Lies, which opens in Australia on October 9.

The actor is preparing for another film with Scott, Nottingham, based on Robin Hood, and has grown his hair past shoulder length.

"I'm going to play Maid Marion," Crowe, twirling his long hair, told Leno.

Crowe will play the Sheriff of Nottingham and Siena Miller has been cast as Maid Marion.

Of course he isn't good at maths. 300 million x 1 million only costs $300 million as the article read. Typing error?

lol i thought i was the only 1 that read the typo.

Correct me if im wrong but wouldnt 300 million x $1million = 300 Trillion dollars?

Say it fast a few times and it doesn't even sound a lot of money. Say it too loud and it'll be gu'mint policy.

He is going to play the part of the sherrif of Nottingham, not the part of Robin Hood so he will be coming at finance from a different angle. He should have said "charge every American $1m" not " give every American".

Maybe he was allowing for inflation - after giving everyone $1m each, the total amount would only be worth $300m in today's dollars.

that KIWI is a joke isnt he!!

It *was* a joke! Lighten up! I thought I was the one who is always too serious!

He was being facetious about confronting imminent extreme poverty by making people instant millionaires.
If you read it right... a million would not be what people would ask for.
... intimating GREED - which is the purported cause of the bailout problem!

On the September 29th episode of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Russell Crowe revealed his bailout plan for America's economic crisis.

JAY LENO: Now we were talking back stage, and you told me you had a bailout plan. You've been watching us here in America?

RUSSELL CROWE: I have been intently watching the political process, Jay. Fascinated with it... It's a very exciting time for America.

LENO: Americans love to hear what actors have to say on political issues.

CROWE: I know. I know. That's why I make so many political comments.

LENO: That's right. That's right.

CROWE: I'll just try this out on you guys. And look, don't get too excited about it or anything 'cause you can't vote for me, no matter how much you want to...

Um, so, here's the thing: They're looking for $700 billion, right? Which is a good chunk of change, but have you noticed whenever you go to a bank, or whenever you talk to a government department about what you need, they'll never actually give you all of what you need? So, I don't think we should do that for a start.

But I was thinking if they wanna stimulate the economy, get people spending, let people look after their, their mortgage, I think you take the first 300 million Americans, if that's the population at this point in time, give everyone a million bucks.

(Applause)

LENO: That would stimulate the...

CROWE: Don't use that now...

LENO: Oh yeah, that'll work. What are the taxes on that? But OK, that would work, yeah...
