Hi,

While I am learning, I am looking at conditional orders on Commsec (stop losses). My question to the learned is......do I have to purchase a share on Commsec and then go to Conditional Orders to set the stop loss or can I buy and set the stop loss through the conditional orders screen????

Thanks for you help.....

Gday Bob,
Probably a question for your broker?

My understanding is that the stop loss needs to be set at the time of a conditional buy order, but I can't give any warranties on that information.

If you are planning a order doing this, may I suggest you run through it first over the phone, live with your broker.

There's nothing stopping you placing a hypothetical order that definitely won't trigger (market closed/ far fetched prices etc) to see how it works.
Then cancel said order.
Brokerage fees are only charged on an executed order, from my understanding as outlined on commsec site.
Cheers.

Just follow COMMSEC's simple steps.
Clearly to stop a loss on a share, you will need to first own it.

I looked at conditional orders some years ago on Comsec and found it an expensive exercise for any value potentially accrued.
