This may simply be a coincidence, but clicking on to the video link in Snake's post, just before it started to play I got a warning screen that my internet security had detected a worm. I exited the link.

i dont have time to watch ur video, but do u think its fair to base ur view about islam from a single interview, or from the grossly biased media, isnt it better to read some books?

i could of course reply properly to your post and say many bad things about christianity or any religion based on one interview and/or what several individuals say.... but i prefer not to stir racial tensions in this forum

let me share a fact with u: islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, statistics (probably compiled by christians or jews) show this... any thoughts about that? WHy is a religion so intolerant being taken up by so many people? Hmmm.... sumthing to think about
 
**** I hate narrow minded people - in any religion there are extremists - southern america ring any bells? just because we hear about the extreme ones doesn't mean that everyone in the religion is like that.
 

Care to elaborate why you confuse religion with race? I haven`t mentioned race in the above post.

The lady in the intrerview used to be a muslim and is syrian! It is an al jazeera interview! Hardly biased from my point of view.

Hey champ, I have read books and do have muslim friends and they have the same views.

People think that we are just trashing a religion or causing trouble. It is far from that. It`s part of Jihad to try to silence those who speak out. Look at the fatwas in the world etc..How barbaric can some be!

The good point was how she said Jews don`t go blowing up German restaurants etc. because they had a tough time in world war two. But muslims and the worse people islamists do just that.

OK, so now I am confused You say you have friends who are muslim, yet your original post is describing how intolerant islam is? I feel that any religion that is practised to its most orthodox extent is fundamentally intolerant of others. Most religions, except for Hinduism, Buddhism, Ba'hai, Jehovah's witnesses (and others that I cant name) can be radically violent and totally intolerant. At the moment we have a wave of muslim terrorists, but history will tell tales of terrible crimes committed by Christians - even as recently as Yugoslavia.
 
prospector, even hinduism can have extremists....

the BJP party in India came to power in the early nineties based on hindu extremism.... its main premise was to drive out muslims and christians...

some of the worst religious riots in history occured under its watch in many states around India, both between Hindus and Christians, as well as Hindus and Muslims... many christian churces were burnt and priests were killed, etc, etc...

All religions have the capacity to stir up intolerance and cause conflict, when placed in the hands of over zealous politicians and power hungry zealots!

that is not the fault of the religion, rather the fault of the people who preach from the pulpits, in the name of that religion!
 
With few exceptions (if any?) taking any kind of religion or belief to extremes leads to conflict or at least serious trouble IMO.

Not just religion but issues such as the labour movement (the movement in general not specifically the ALP), globalisation, capitalism, environmentalism, personal freedom or anything else of that nature. Take the extreme view and try and force it on others and the end result is trouble. These things have their place but they can be taken too far.

Live and let live IMO.

I don't much care what anyone thinks or does if it affects only them. It is quite different when their views or actions have any effect on the rest of us or if they try to force their views on us. Doesn't matter whether it is religion, food fads, sexuality or whatever. Mr Non-Average Bloke (or Blokess) can be a fundamentalist devotee of any religion, homosexual, vegan for all I care as long as he/she doesn't want to convert me to the same practices.

Yes, totally agree except that that is exactly what Christians have been doing for centuries - missionary work bringing Christianity into so called 'primitive' cultures. I refuse to donate to charities that are aligned with a church (except maybe the Salvation Army) because often their aid to others comes with a catch - you must be christian to receive it!

I've done charity work for St Vinnies, and I can tell you, religious persuation does not come into it one bit... I think you'll find this is the case for most charities run by religious organisations...

Infact, I'd be interested if you could name a few where religious affiliation is a pre-requisite...

Julia, agree completely, and I wish it could be true, but in reality it can never happen... If you really, really, really beleive that your way is the best, then your natural tendency is to tell everyone else about it...
 
Hi all,

Just encountered this post by accident actually.

The interview does not show how intolerant Islam is, it shows what the opinions of this interviewee are.

It is not what I would exactly call an academic insight of Islam.

I know this because I am Muslim, living in Australia. I can harp on about contributions of Muslims to humanity which Wafa denies (Inventions) or the stories of how Muslims have protected peoples of different religions races etc but I won't as this is inherent in humanity, as are the evils we see and have heard.

One interview, especially by someone dubious, cannot come with a conclusion. Why not see the other coin and that is, what the Muslims of Australia are like from their own forums : Aussie Muslim village or talk to someone of the Muslim faith just to see how we tick
 
Rafa, I encountered exactly this when I was exploring options for donating money for the Tsunami appeals and similar. There are many charitable groups but within the explanatory text there was the by line that the 'work was done for the Christians of this area' or words to that effect. Perhaps this is more an overseas missionary issue rather than a local one but I prefer to donate money overseas anyway.
 
While you stumbled accidentally on this thread, you could be tick interpreter, having deep understanding, or at least easy access to one who is tick-master.

Some say everything in life has some purpose, maybe this accident had to happen?
