Church recommendation?

just wondering if anyone can recommend a church in Sydney for my friend to go to this Christmas Eve? He's from overseas with his family and would like to experience a "pious evening" in a church. They are not religious yet.

My recommendation is probably a bit far away.

I visited The CofE cathedral in Hereford on the weekend to marvel at the architecture, read the history and take touristy photographs etc. This place ain't no mausoleum to a dead religion, but an active and prominent church community.

Mrs and I spoke to quite a large group of parishioners who were cleaning up after a Christmas do, and they were the coolest Christians I have ever met. If I ever felt the urge to try somewhere, it would be there... not much help to your friend though, but a good tip for any Christians that happen to be passing through Herefordshire.

Go to the big cathedaral next to Hyde Park. It is a catholic cathedral and is worth the visit. Mass is around 11:15 I think.

There looks a good little church in Drummoyne on Lyons Road, just off Victoria to the left.

Free sausage sizzle and carols.

There is also a similar one in Kirribilli, again, free sausage sizzle

I keep my eyes peeled to see the light.

Seriously though, the one in Drummoyne looks good. Small and cosey.

Take them down to the local Vinnies or Salvos to have a meal with the people that JC mixed with through his life. I'm sure it won't cost $5 a seat , although I'd suggest they bring some food to share with the less fortunate.

There are apparently a lot of people doing just that, gg. One of the charities was saying this week that - grateful though they are - they have more volunteers to help on Christmas Day than they can use. She said whole families come along with the idea of showing their children that not everyone is as fortunate etc.
I volunteered once on a Christmas Eve in the kitchen peeling hundreds of potatoes. Actually really enjoyed the cheerful atmosphere, lots of goodwill, while outside thousands shopped in stress.
