Choosing a broker... with good stock selection tools/research

I've been overseas for a quite a while and have just returned so am a bit lost when it comes to choosing a broker and am hoping someone could please point me in the right direction....

I'm looking for an online broker, and what is important to me is that they can also provide good (ie comprehensive & reliable) stock screening tools. I'm not that fussed about charting, but the ability to sort & screen stocks according to fundamental data (ie market cap, p/e, forward p/e, sector etc) is important to me. (Preferably in downloadable format)

As an added bonus if that broker can also provide research/analyst reports (ie fundamental analysis) that would be great.

Commsec looks reasonable to me - but I can't find much about whether they provide a stock screener, their charting tool is $82/month which is too much.

Etrade seems to have a stock screener, but to find out more I have to sign up for an account.

I have seen the stock screener at www . stockscan . com . au - but its $147 per year. I was hoping an online broker could provide this free.

Any ideas? Is Etrade any good? Are there any other brokers I should consider?

thanks in advance :)

e-trade is a bit clunky but can provide decent lists.

I cannot comment on the others.
