Hi I am pretty new to the trading game and have started out with very little capital. I know many suggest that you need more to start then I am using, but I intend to learn my trading plan and get practice trading, rather than trying to make money initially.

With this in mind can people that have had a bit of experience share what charting software and/or data they would use depending on your circumstances. If you have only ever used one and loved it than post away but it would be great if people that have used a few could comment.

I would also prefer if people could post on what they would suggest is suitable for different budgets, eg

$1000 initial starting capital (ie no money for software or data yet)

$10,000 capital (some money for software and good free data or good EOD data)

$100,000 capital (what are the best software and data packages that people use/like)

If we get some good answers here it would be great if you could sticky as I believe it is an important and common question by everyone starting out.

Depends on the type of trading but for good free charting you should have a look at Fcharts which I still use & Incredible charts which others seem to like.

For FX & Commodities a CFD account is the way go. Free and Live.

So true. The experienced often talk at "high" levels for beginners and it takes a while to learn the acronyms and jargons.

The requirements for day/EOD/Weekly trading vs longer term "investing" (months/years) are so different.

I, too, would like to see comments on software - people were successful before software - and systems. Can you have a "system" without software like Amibroker/Metastock and only chart info? And if so, what can one expect?

Incredible Charts is good.

Yeh I have incredible charts, the Hubb free charting software and a CFD account. The problem is the latter (at least via CMCs MarketMaker) doesn't provide volume and while the others do it is only useful the day after. The Hubb free charting has a few extra indicators available that aren't available in incredible charts.

Try using IG Market's fake CFD account, they give u a nice 100,000 to invest.
I once made 3 accounts and I remember i lost 80k:banghead:
Its good to get your own style and learn from the mistakes, except dont use physical monie to start with, its not as ez as it seems..

google "egoli" bit of a performance to download and get running but worth it nice oz/us charts with intra day feature great news/tv service along with tipping advice. If you don't like /want it then it uninstalls a lot more easily than it installs.

Google "ADVFN" intra day OZ / US charts and news similar to egoli but more US style

Both of these have Free tipping emails

Anyone else have problems with Incredible Charts and online trading? When I try to open my online trading a/c whilst Incredible Charts is running, I get an error message saying I may not have the correct browser.

I have CMC Marketmaker and whenever this is open I often get issues with other programs - I have a feeling it is more to do with my computer but nevertheless the problems only occur when Marketmaker is open. It has caused issues/shutdowns with Incredible charts, excel and outlook so far.

CMC's software is a steaming pile of dung!

I can run IB's TWS, Quotetracker, excel, MT4 and zeroline trader all at once, and still have enough memory left over for firefox and thunderbird. That same computer will run marketmaker and not much else:cautious:
