Is there a way investors can search for the highest gaining stocks over a defined period?

So for example, show all stocks that gained >200% over 5 years?

You can write whatever in Amibroker. E.g. --

PHP:
Hmmm = C > (Ref(C, Param("Since When in Days", -1250, -1250, -0, 1))* Param("Percent Rise x 100", 2.0, 1.01, 5.0, 0.01));
Filter = Hmmm;
AddColumn(C, "Should Have Bought, LOL", 1.2);

Metastock can do it as well.
Do you want stocks that at sometime over the last 5 yrs have increased 200% + or are now 200 % higher than 5 years ago?

... and what about stocks that went up tenfold before dropping back? you might catch FMG or CVN. Wouldn't want either at this moment...

AmiBroker is undoubtedly the best and fastest for this type of study.

Home grown Aussie Bullcharts can do this quite easily too, using a very user friendly interface also. I couldn't trade without it.

Excellent customer service too.

Sorry for the late reply. My account won't let me reply to individual responses for some reason :confused:
Anyhow, I'm looking for a stock filter (preferably free) that can show which equities that have rebounded in price the most post 2008.

I've never used Amibroker or Bullcharts before. Just Commsec.

* Free Charts and free scanning (limited) go to Incredible Charts.
* Download free charts, fill in data to ID yourself ... once downloaded you will see a chart on your screen.
* In Chart background you will see 'Free Data' sign, a small price to pay for free charts.
* Up above chart is some icons, top left one is a magnifying glass - click onto this and it will take you to the Stock Screening area.
* Under the create tab, which it should be on, you will find the box 'Exchange:' select Australia in the drop down box.
* Sector: It should be on "All Equities'
* Sort By: Stock
* Scroll down to 'Add Filters' area
* Click on 'Price'
* Click on 'Percentage Price Move'
* Time box with 1 day in it, change it to 3 years or whatever you want.
* In Min% box put in 1000 ---- this will mean 1000%
* Press 'Add'
* Scroll back to the 'Filters and Parameters' area and you will see the criteria you selected.
* Now press 'Run Screen' this will bring up a list of stocks that have risen by 1000% or more in the last 3 years
* On top of the list is the headers such as Security - Exchange - Sector - %PM(3Y)
* Click inside the header box of %PM(3Y) and it will sort out the list from the biggest movers to the smallest.
* There is some icons above this list, select the right hand green arrow, this will create a watchlist of all the stocks in the screen.
* Now name the watchlist say as Top Movers Last 3 Years - Dec 2011, press OK now press OK again.
* Now go to left hand icon 'Charts' (Return to last chart)
* There is 2 blue arrow icons above chart, right click left one and select your saved watchlist - Top Movers Last 3 Years - Dec 2011.
* Right click right arrow and you will see list of stocks but it will be in alphabetical order not highest % move. If you want view the highest % move stock double click on the stock when you have the results within the scanning area results.
Anyway, moving on
* Select 1st stock or any stock in watchlist and this will bring up a box (only 1st time use) for a 30 day free trial of their full service. Click OK, then click OK again.
* Now go back to the right blue arrow and click, this will bring up the first stock. Now click arrow again for the next stock in watchlist or you can just scroll your mouse wheel downward to bring up the next stock.
* You can also right click the right arrow to view the list of stocks.
* This should put you on the right path of what you were trying to achieve for free.
* As for everything else, have a look around the site for directions on how to set thing up for your needs.
* You can go to the Help button up top to find your way around and there is also a chart forum that can help with your needs, questions or researching already asked questions.

All the best and hope that this has help.
