Hi, I have been looking at the following: Bullcharts, Trade Navigator, Stock Doctor and Phoenix ai (which is good).

Does anyone have any information on these products or better. I have EzyCharts & MetaStock but seem to be missing vital threads.

Thanks, Bluey

Probably best to do a bit of research on the net. There are sites that compare software. Go to google and type in "compare stock trading software", or similar.

Some advice for what its worth:
When looking for software, remember that is just a tool that will at best help you identify potential opportunities, at worst cause you paralysis by analysis. A simple charting package for under a 1000 bucks is often the way to go. Stay away from promoters flogging off seminars and software for thousands of dollars.

Why can you get free intraday data from a free charting program like Incredible Charts but you have to pay for data for paid charting programs. or can you get free data for these as well?

I notice that EOD data is around $300 pa at most places as well and yet Incredible charts is doing intraday for free. How can they do it?

Its not intraday data. Its delayed snapshot data updated only every Hour. You can get 15-20 min delayed free from most brokers and yahoo etc.

Have been studying alternatives to Metastock, (been using version 8 EOD, and never quite happy about the system testing module). Narrowed my search down to Amibroker or Bullcharts, and arrived at the following price comparisons:

AB: Initial price (standard) $US199 = $A244
plus one-year EOD ASX data and history, plus one-year Forex data and history = $A792, (from Premiumdata), a total of $A1036 for year one.
On-going data cost is $A594 p.a.

Bullcharts: Initial price $A795
plus one-year EOD ASX data which includes history AND US data AND Forex data $365 (proprietory data from Bullcharts), a total of $A1160 for year one.
On-going data cost is $365 p.a.

I was surprised at the result because I'd always had the impression that AB was very low-priced, but when taking all costs into account, there is really nothing between them.

Tradesim is built in if required (extra cost).

Aware of a big fan-base for AB, and both these programs seem first-class, but I'm very impressed with my trial of Bullcharts and will probably go with that.

Am interested to learn of others' research and their findings in case I've missed some vital differences between the two.

Is it correct that if you have trading accounts with certain brokers you can get intraday data and end of day data for free using a plugin for amibroker.

For example i was under the impression with my Interactive Brokers account i can get live ASX data for $30 a month (i think) and if i had Amibroker i could get a plugin that would use this data for no extra cost. Maybe someone with IB and Amibroker could confirm this.

Yes with IB you can subscribe to data from numerous`markets, ASX included and the AB plugin works fine, I also use Ninja Trader and Fib Trader with IB's data.

Would this mean I wouldn't need a 3rd party data provider (e.g JustData) if I had an Interactive Broker account?

I can just download all the data (>10yrs) off IB? Sounds too good to be true.
