a lot of sand crabs here in moreton bay at present. here is this mornings catch. my pots are still in and i have to check them every 2 hours. ive been getting an average of 4 per look.

i go out in my kayak to check them, so its a pretty inexpensive exercise...

they look like mud crabs...how big are they...pink ones look like they have been cooked....mud crabs are yummy, alaskan king crabs...and king island crays...or are they morton bay bugs ??? have not seen them for awhile down south...brother used to run a seafood business years ago....so I had cheap supplies then
cheers...ps I have never heard the term sand bugs...except for the tiny things we used to pump /suck up out of the sand

I confess, that was my first impression as well! I thought perhaps he was looking for remedies to alleviate the discomfort.

I stood on a small crap in Port Phillip Bay on Wednesday. It hurt a little bit to and they hang on really tight. wonder.

looks like some blueswimmer crabs.

sorry i havent replied, ive been out.

yeah, blue swimmer crabs. the ones on the right are cooked.....

ive only 4 pots out. check them every 3 hours during the day, or round about. average catch of 4 per check...the freezer is gunna be full by the time the season is over...so i might stop at 30 or 40..some people catch that many PER DAY!!! they give them to friends etc.....

cheers.

Metric is their a bag limit on blue swimmers?

Im pretty sure there is 1 on mud crabs.

i think the limit is 40 on sandies...10 on muddies. at those totals, the crabs are pretty safe from me.....

also there are size limits, and no females can be taken..

I caught crabs once, up the front of Rosa Gully, then I used them as bait to catch bream. Excellent bait.

Went crabbing and fishing last night and caught these four fellas in pots and the grunter on braid. Perfect weather and I can tell you muddies still are the best tasting crustacean.
