My girlfriend moved overseas a few months ago, and I'll be joining her soon, so I am looking for a home for her beautiful tabby cat "Toffee". She is 2 years old, affectionate, and loves food- she has put on a bit of a gut since this pic was taken.

She is house-trained, and is an indoor car only- so she has no fleas, ticks or scratches, and is in excellant health (went to vet only 3 months ago).

In a perfect world, it would be nice if we could find her a temporary home for 2 years (when Pris and I return form the UK) but I know it would be very difficult to give her up after that time (though maybe if you have plans to go overseas yourself this could work out) so I am anticipating that I will have to give her away for good.

You're welcome to come round and visit her before you commit to anything (I live in North Melb).

Yeah- feeling kinda guilty about posting this (and my room to rent) on the ASF, I'm sure Joe must be grinding his teeth at this one, lol

But if there's no cat lovers amongst the trading community I can also try the trading post. Or China-town.

Don't feel bad about putting this on ASF. Many of us are animal lovers.
I would take the cat except for the fact that my German Shepherd would regard it as a toy and the cat's life would be less than joyful.

Do hope you can find a good home for the cat. It's sad when our pets find their lives disrupted because of us.

ive always wanted to remain 'cat free', but the kids are starting to bug me.

i dont live too far away, just a few km's - when do ya need a decision by ?
 
Yeah, I actually really like cats, and they like me. But then again, I like most animals. Can't stand when cats eat birds though.

I just have a morbid sense of humour sometimes...

for the record I did find the pics funny, but it has made me very cautious giving toffee to one of you nutballs on the ASF... she'd be safer in IRAQ.

Baglimit, thanks for your interest- it'd be good to have a decision by next weekend. If you live close by you can come over and visit Toff and see how you two get on. It could be love at first sight...
Trust me cats are very very low maintence next to dogs. But I'm not wanting to start up that debate here...
 
I say good on ya for trying hard to find her a good home. I was lucky when i moved here my friends took my cat into thier home where she is as spoiled as she was with me. Cats can be great company. Shes wears a bell and only rarely can she catch a bird, then its usually sparrows anyway. Ferral cats and dogs are a problem in Australia, true, but responsible owners can make sure domestic pets don't have a negative effect on the local wildlife by keeping them in at night, and making sure they wear a bell or two.

Well done, hope she finds some owners as good as yourselves.

I've looked after 11 different cats (not all at once) and my general experience is that young cats catch all sorts of things but the novelty wears off after a while and old cats can't be bothered catching things.

It's a bit like young people and fast cars. After a while, just getting safely from A to B becomes the priority for most and the novelty of speed etc wears off. There are exceptions with both cats and people of course.

One of my cats was once chased around the house by a mouse. Took a few weeks before she stopped creeping around corners expecting to find a mouse in the house. One of the two I have now did pick up a rat a few weeks ago, but then the rat squeaked so the cat just put it back down. The unanswered question is where the rat is now - living somewhere in the garden I assume.
 
Nice story, Smurf. It reminds me of one German Shepherd I had who ran to me in fear when a cat chased her!
