Brett Lee's song zooms up Indian charts
Monday January 1, 2007
A lilting romantic duet written and sung by Australian cricket star Brett Lee has climbed to number three on the Indian charts, the album's composer said.

Lee wrote the lyrics of You're The One For Me - which he performs with legendary Bollywood singer Asha Bhosle - in 30 minutes after a cricket practice session with his team during the Champions Trophy tournament in India in November.

The song, partly in Hindi, is about a Westerner trying to woo an Indian beauty. The song's video, shot in under three hours, has Lee playing guitar and singing to an Indian girl working in an office.

"We had a great time recording the music," composer Samir Tandon told Reuters. "As a musician he is nothing like the aggressive fast bowler that he is on the field. He is extremely polite."

The song climbed to number three this week on the music charts of popular FM station Radio City, which broadcasts in several Indian cities.

The song, in which the blond Lee speaks a smattering of Hindi as well, also figured in the top four of many newspaper and magazine rankings, Tandon said.

Lee has reportedly said recording the song with Bhosle was an "amazing" experience, calling the Indian singer, who has sung some 13,000 numbers, the "Aretha Franklin of India".

For Bhosle, it was not only a chance to meet a famous cricketer but one with a knowledge of music.

"My family has always followed cricket avidly, so recording with Brett Lee was exciting," Bhosle told Reuters. "He is a charming person."

For decades Bhosle, and her more illustrious sister Lata Mangeshkar, have captivated the imagination of music lovers in India, rendering thousands of hit songs for Bollywood and other Indian language films.

Lee, who plays in the band Six & Out with former New South Wales state teammates, has also been offered roles in Bollywood films, but he has turned them down because of cricket commitments, the Times newspaper reported in London this week.
Boy oh boy
:headshake :horse: :band

cheers

Fast bowling just little bit better, but he has nice taste in Indian Girls though.... :D

Not that something would come out of it, he's married isn't he...????

What was the inspiration to make the video????

Im not sure
I think its just because the Indians love him and there was a $$ in it. Someone has probably said to him 'hey lets make a million bucks'..... not hard work.
Probably made more off that 30 min writing the song then he did actually playing cricket over there!!!

Cheers

there's nowhere to vote for
b) stick to fast bowling, as well as
c) singer is hot.
(pedanty, but the fact that he's a better bowler than singer doesn't preclude her from being hot - unless maybe his line and length get all messed up because he's thinking of her maybe? - or maybe his wife kneecaps him when she sees the video lol).

or maybe (a bit more pedantry)
d) the singer could be safely put out to pasture, but
e) the young girl is hot. ;)

That is the gayest song in the world... I cried laughing sooo hard... Was he flirting with the old bat... And then begging her... HAHAHHA... "Desperado"...

Now seriously... Don't buy into this crap... He is only exploiting his cricket fans by launching some talentless pop songs in order to grab a quick buck... It offends me that I and many out there, have talent yet are not given a chance...

What is with celebrities thinking they can just pick up an instrument and master it in weeks and then release this rubbish (he hasn't even begun to learn how to sing)...

It has nothing to do with cultural differences in music tastes but everything to do with bad singing... He is crap...

soon he'll be doing some acting as well...

I'm gonna put the link to the video in the ASF joke thread... HAHAHA

Just so you all know, option C is refering to the 'old bat'.......
Brett's a lower order batsman so he gets the slops unfortunatly,........
ahhhh nothing like knocking a bat in.

cheers :D
