I just wonder, what kind of people will be enticed by this grant to have more babies than they want.
Most educated people, who want babies will no doubt treat this as a bonus as new mothers and fathers would welcome extra dollars to buy baby products. And they probably won't have babies just to get the money even though it may trigger their plan to have a baby sooner.
But for those whose motive is just to get $4000.00 from the government I wonder what kind of babies they will have and what kind of mentality these babies are going to have when they grow up- I hope that they don't rely on more welfare payment for their survival. (Not that all of them will live off the benefit but from the studies I read, it is very difficult to break the mental cycle and live "unlike" your parents & upbringing) I wonder if the baby is going to get the love and care it deserves if they are so focused on the temporary gift that they are going to get.
For a economy that is growing we surely need more people- but what kind of people? The more technological deveopments we have, we need more people who can cope with more technology. If people can't keep up developments on our society they will be an outcast of our economic system and rely on welfares.
I wish the government could think of other incentives for encouraging normal people to have babies- many delay having babies because of their careers or until they are more financially stable. And many are reluctant to have more because of cost of child-care and education.
I certainly can't have a baby now(can but do not want to sacrifice my investment plans-because once certain amount of wealth is there I'll be financially non-dependent on work and I'll be more free with my time), because I feel uncomfortable with my current financial situation and my career. My career is not only about making a day to day living but it's also the way I express myself in our society. (I don't want to be going back to work to work as $12.00/hour check out chic because I want to be with kids when then come home from school. I want to have a little flexi-time work while my kid(s) grow up which my current position will not allow). I'll certainly be building a little bit more wealth and system that creates wealth before I devulge myself into motherhood and of course try to move into a position, even with a little less pay, that allows flexi time work.
