You might need to work out your niche, or major interest. Something you have a passion for and expertise in. You can't be an expert trader / investor in everything, in my opinion. You could go fundamentals in financials or services, or technical trading in anything. If you choose resources, which is my thing, you even need to work out what metal you understand to invest in with any conviction. Lots of trial and error, psychology and willingness to invest in education in whatever you choose is your thing.

Great point, I think it's potentially easy to be a jack of all trades, master of none, where it could be better to find a niche and stick to it.

Apart from just reading all the announcements from companies and their presentations there's a wealth of information free on YouTube. I spend a couple of hours each day watching interviews with trading experts and company managers to get insights into the market. As a full time investor I have CNBC on in the background for most of the day too. I used to be a jack of all trades but realised I might as well just buy a fund or an ETF that covers the market. There's not much fun in that though. But, it's safer.

Check out Kneppy Invests on YouTube - as provides an overview of how to understand company announcements/reports & what to look for etc. with insight into both fundamental & technical analysis as well.

Does this mean you've now moved towards ETF's and just have some individual stocks on the side? I was listening to the boys over at Equity Mates and they mention a 'core' and 'satellite' approach which I think is the same thing

Everyone is in different circumstances. I like the idea or a 'core' holding and playing individual penny stocks for the potential multibagger. I'm very discretionary but also very conservative. Just need to play around and find out what suits your personality and financial situation. It's taken me 30 years of investing to realise I have no idea what I'm doing.
