I'm looking at buying a new 2009 Ford G Series G6E Turbo or a Holden Calais for one of the ex Mrs Gumnut's who I still have some affection for.

May I ask members experiences on their recent best deals.

What is the lowest the dealers will go for a deal at present.

Recent experience would be most helpful.

Hi GG,

Cant help you with the prices on that model

However, once you have a starting point

You can do a dutch auction by phoning or emailing several dealers in various locations

tell them straight out what you are doing and have them provide you with the best price to your door.

They will resist a bit, of course but as you seem to be a very experienced negotiator, I'm sure you would achieve a very good price.

hopefully the local dealer can come close, as sure you would rather support.

I'm guessing, but I reckon they will be finding it hard to move the upper spec models atm

Those cars are what ? around $50k ? you can get a VERY nice C Class Merc for that, only slightly used.

The main problem we have up here in the North with Bentleys is that when you are backing your tinnie down most ramps the front leading edge just forward of the door, often scrapes on the bitumen , and they are a bit exxie to respray.

Her old man is Sicilian from Ingham and not all that well, and a keen fisherman, so the car would need to manage ramps.

The colour would not be a problem in Ingham, but remember the tinnie and the ramp mate. That monster would scrape on our second rate boat ramps.

Thats why I'd like to get her a Ford or a Holden.

I have got a Calais (not for sale) , only 2 things I don't like about it are the tiny side mirrors have horrendous blind spots (nearly wiped out a motorcyclist one day) and the front spoiler is too low , plenty of power though for towing when the supercharger kicks in . Otherwise good car all round. I have been a hardcore chev/holden supporter since fertilization , so that other brand would never enter my mind.
 
I would recommend searching different dealers if your interested in different dealers.

I'm looking at a new corolla and between 2 different dealers it was a $4000 difference.

Some dealers want your business and will help you out alot, others will be the 'take it or leave it' type

Two questions Mr GG

How many ex'ers do you have and
If you hold affection for ASF members would you buy them a car too? :

A Bentley works here because I dont use boat ramps. I dont really like them but I could be forced to drive one.

Do they have those high gutters in Ingham, same as Cairns?

Very bad combo with low spoilers for us Southerners, cost me $900 to get rental fixed last trip, the spoilers were so low it was a disgrace, kept scraping all the time, totally unsuitable.

No, I would not buy a Bentley for an ASFer even if I held them in affection.
They are nice motors, reliable, fast and get you into Fleminton Races without a ticket in November Spring Carnival.

Maybe a 4w drive is the way to go, but I'm always out for the best deal and a Ford or a Commodore 6cylinder salesman is hurting ++++ at present.
Some 4wds are moving with the 50% rebate.

slightly off topic

but atm i have noticed prices on 3 yr old vehicles have remained stable

seems everyone is trying to save a $ and they are keeping them

took me much longer than i thought to find a good 3 yr old Commodore wagon for my son to drive, at the price I wanted
 

Jeremy Clarkson, the Pommy Motoring bloke reckons a 3 year old motor is the best to buy, lost most price and kept most value.

So you are on the button there awg.
