There was some sort of poll thread about Ben previously but I thought he deserved his own general thread.

Not sure how interested others are in what transpires but I think it's an interesting topic of conversation, even in Peru....

His first words since getting back from holidays are probably linked to the front page of most papers but I found it at the age

Looks like he may be going to really work this through and turn it into a positive. Maybe...

Earlier, while it was hot topic first time over, somebody who claimed to be an expert on de-tox and rehabilitation mentioned, that it takes more than half a dozen of attempts to eventually break free.

If true Ben’s got another 4 goes to finally get on another track, drug free that is, so I too have to say: maybe.

I think he's already had a couple of attempts, at least.

The event was well controlled by the MC, whoever he was. Could have been a real circus. Was just a sideshow....

Although, anything with Mundine in it is a circus. He should turn politician I reckon. What an orator!!!

Looking forward to the fight between Cousins and the League bloke. Good match up there.....

I am no expert but would imagine addiction means on going rehab in some form or other for life. Hopefully when hes able he can use his profile to support various programs.

Wish him all the best, its a long way from smashing wine glasses into your girl friends face......

Actually I heard some of his talk - not mentioned here - where he claimed that the same traits in him that make him a star footballer also made him a junkie ??

Also that you don't choose drugs, they choose you??

Good luck to him sure, but he still didn't seem quite ready to blame himself in any of this - and I'd have thought that was a first step.

Anyway, whilst walking the dog, I threw these lines together ...

hey ben you say the reason that you kicked the ball so straight
in a bygone footy season when the whole world called you mate
the adulation kids showed , why they craved to wear your shoes
is ALSO why you pop those pills – well you sure know how to confuse.

Sure, Ben. Somehow, mysteriously, those initial drugs just found their way into your biochemistry. Nothing to do with you taking them. Of course not.

I always thought you dont do Drugs; Drugs do you

Still what else could he do to try and redeeeem himself in the eyes of the public....expect more from the PR Machine

He still cant fathom what the fuss was about

the only thing i really care about is him getting back to playing footy...with the arrogant stride and the 'im just plain better than you' attitude

i think its great to see

the game needs players to love and hate...people pay money to watch players like benny c in the flesh...hopefully he will be back

Re: Ben Cousins- Will he get drafted?

I thought this was worth revisiting.

It's not looking good for Ben, nearly every club has declared their non-interest. Of the 6 clubs with picks in the PSD next saturday i think 3 have definately declared their lack of interest.

I think Richmond may be a rough chance, because Sheedy is there and he wants him. Other than that though I think it's back to the WAFL for Ben.

What do others think?

I have had a little change of heart with Benny.

Given he has never tested positive under the AFL code for testing, but others (who shall remain nameless but everyone knows who they are) have tested positive twice and have suffered no fall from grace, I think the AFL might just need to ensure that one club picks him up. And that would mean things like, his salary isnt included in the salary cap. And if Port Power picked him up, just watch the crowds flock to see him play.

my view on benny dear is that if i party with him, and run like he can from the cops, and keep up, i wont be charged with anything either..

anyone who has gone to california for drug rehab is obviously innocent of any drug taking imho, cant draw any conclusion from that..

the guy is squeeky clean, we know that.. but if you ask any players or coaches, they have tended to vote him off..

imho its the AFL players who are just to picky about who they want to party with and dont think things through!

i was thinking if he doesnt play in the afl, perhaps he
could be a great financial adviser. cant do much worse then most
at present.

Ben can play the game and probably still can but the AFL have made it almost impossible for any club to sign him clearly intentional that they do not want him in the league.

The risk is that he becomes a major distraction rather than a benefit for any club that takes him on.

Another risk is soft tissue damage, hamstrings etc.

I would love for Ben to return and blow them away but I don't think its going to happen.

It will be interesting with the WAFL.

In his very short time at Perth, he caused an enormous fuss and was still behaving like the complete ******** that saw him kicked out of the AFL.

He could always try his luck in the NFL in the states.

Players like Darren Bennet, Sav Rocca and now Barry Hall
have headed over there.

I think its on people. It sounds like Sheedy will get his way and the Tiges will put polak on their rookie list (using Ramanauskas precedent) and draft cousins with their last pick. For a club without any success & no real superstar players I think it's worth a punt...

I think it would be great for Richmond, great player, who would draw crowds and membership for the club.

As they say 'High Risk, High Gain'
