Following Jamie Neale's money grab after his rescue in the Blue Mountains, perhaps a form of monitoring should be applied to Pommy backpackers.

There are a number of ways of doing this.

A chip could be inserted into their necks on arrival at Border Security that would activate when they got lost. A whinge would activate the chip and locate them via GPS.

They could be banned from National Parks and Large Shopping Centres, where the chances of getting lost are increased.

I wouldn't want to ban them altogether as most are good spenders and when sober , articulate and peaceful people, though at times unfamiliar with the English language.

Wouldn't there be a lot of false activations if they went to a cricket match that had Ricky Ponting captaining Australia? :)

That is a very good point.

The chip could be turned off during Test match play, and briefly turned on during breaks, drinks etc.

National Parks and Large Shopping Centres would have to be surveyed to ensure that the chips worked there.

But they wouldn't need breaks or drinks, they can go for days without food or drinks and still be ok apparently :D

I know Aussies love to go on about whinging Poms, but nobody whinges more than an Aussie in London (and I say that as a Scot who has no great love for the English).

Maybe we should ban the media who are willing to pay the big $$$$ for the 'exclusive'
Who is the stupid one in this scenario?

Yes mate, but if an aussie gets lost in London he or she can wave into a cctv camera until some copper comes along.

A poor whingeing pommy venturing into Westfield Shoppingtown or the Blue Mountains could be lost for weeks if they stray off an escalator or a walking track.
without water, food and a GPS

The media , mainstream anyway are a pack of wankers alright.
