Average Directional Index

Is ADI the same as ADX? I think it is but I could be wrong...

To my understanding ADX measures the strength of the prevailing trend. A rising ADX indicates a strong underlying trend while a falling ADX suggests a weakening trend which is subject to reversal.

That's my understanding anyway.

Has anyone heard of the ADI - Average Directional Index?
The average directional index indicator is ADX. ADI is the accumulation/distribution index.

Assuming you mean ADX, it's an indicator showing the strength of a trend. Usually displayed along with the positive and negative directional indicators +DI and -DI.

There's some info here.

Yes it is the ADX.
Do you actually use it as an indicator?

Thanks for the info. Do you use this indicator?

I gather that most people wouldn't, or is it an American thing?

I don't really use any indicators much, but do display RSI, MACD, and ADX, mainly to see how they relate to my decisions. Of them all, RSI is probably the one I look at the most.
