Lateline Business just finished, and from the analysis I just heard the consensus is that the large stock market players are about to get back into the game.

Trust me this is a serious question from a sub-newbie, but does that mean it is the right time to sell the house and dive into the stock market?

Q55:confused:

well I'd never sell my house for capitol to invest in shares. Who are you referring to when you say 'big boys?

Q55,

The big boys are always in the game, it just isn't always clear ( to me that is ) which side they're playing, as for selling the house, man that's entirely your call., no-one else's.

The "big boys" are always in the game....What that show really means to say is that risk appetite is returning and they are receiving more funding from investors again. I wouldn't recommend selling the house however, as I very highly doubt the market will go back to where it was 2 years ago, anytime soon.

What I would recommend, is buying into areas that will benefit from increased risk appetite (penny stocks, high yielding currencies, emerging market economies etc).

Maybe borrowing against a small portion of the house would be a better idea, that way u get some tax deductions as well....and if u make a mess of it, u still get to keep the house. :)

I would never ever sell my home to buy shares. The roof over our head with no rent to pay is our pot of gold no one can ever take away, good luck with whatever you do.

Looks like a correction is coming.

Kennas, I'm not trying to pick on you, but surely if I wrote 'the market is going to rise' I'd be repremanded with a note of something to the effect of 'you cannot just say a price is going to rise without backing it up and giving reasons as to your thoughts'.

If it was on lateline then it's already too late.:)

hes half taking the piss, like anyone stupid enough to consider offloading their home to speculate on equities is sort of asking for it.

its just a warning that all the suckers are looking at the market again for easy money, like i had a stock tip from someone from the scrub in nz who knew even less about stocks than me. it was along the lines of...." look at xyz, its always going up"(a certain miner in namibia). i took it as a warning that some stocks could be overcooked.

If you look at the time of his comment the Dow was about 90-100 points down on that big run down early in the session. It looked like it was shaping up for a bad day.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to take the piss at all.

Whenever the general media start to become overly bullish, it's time to be cautious.

The 'big boys' might have jumped in already and may be selling into any further strength.

Have to agree with this one!!! Sell your house? Come on, if you dont have the money to play in the market, then selling your home is not a great idea. Have a look at all the news - going back 12mths - about those who did the same in mid 2007 thinking it would never go down, and now most of them are the people I meet at the traffic lights trying to wash my windscreen.

Get in when you think its right, buy what you think is right, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, do your own research.

P.S. Dont believe all you see on TV!:D
