Below is a map of the "Muslim World" as shown in wikipedia.

Is it just my "western eyes" or are most, if not all, of these places somewhere where you just wouldn't want to live your life.

There are obvious exclusions, like some parts of Malaysia and maybe others, but I am really having trouble understanding how the Muslims have shaped their environment and lifestyle to such an extent that to me, it looks totally alien and uninviting.

I'm not looking for any racist or religious comments but for a group that is slowly overtaking the world, I can't see thier offerings as being a forward step....

FFS!!

Maybe you should just be done with it and move here,

Flint, Michigan

What's wrong with Turkey and (only guessing, the map's quite small) Bulgaria? Azerbaijan is also surprisingly nice - comfortable, clean, safe with a very modern capital. I've never been myself, but I know many people that live very comfortably in Dubai and even Oman...

I'm not sure what the point of this thread is?

Maybe this is more your stlye,

Edinburgh in 1952. Few darkies back then. BLISS!!

Looks like Bulgaria, Croatia and Albania. I doubt the Christians areas of Africa are any better off, and would Indonesia be any worse than its neighbours?

Turkey is a secular country, so I don't think it belongs in a group of "Muslim Countries", at least not the way most people would describe that group.

.

Then again the is always the reason to go there and help install a dictatorship with money, arms, trade & corruption to extract their oil.

You gotta luv that about them silly Muslims, hey??

I mean you would have anything against their oil thou? Even if its at the cost of democracy that you demand? As long as you aren't involved with it?

A lot of the 'stricter' muslim countries that you may be thinking off have gated international communities. I know a few people who have lived in these communities and they speak very highly of them.

nunthewiser:

"son?"

very funny nun!

depends on each individuals needs I guess & what you want out of life. Morocco, Egypt, Malaysia, Indoenesia could all appeal to me. The Maledives are also part of it shame that it is slowely sinking!

the cradle of the 3 major religions have the same origin interestingly enough, but seem to have spread differently. I guess Christianity earlier in the piece had a better marketing manager & therefore more followers. More followers = more power & land grab. The Muslim believes - don't forget - were for some time in Spain & the door steps of Austria! With Christianity on the "retreat" that's kind of a concern, lol.

Muslim world is definately not what I want to see in my country...
depends on the extreme, - Iran/Persia under the Shah regime prior to Khomeni was quiet a westernised country, so is Jordan now - i prefer non-religion full stop, as it has caused headaches & heartaches enough by now

from a Geographical point, all the holy cities you are suppose to visit on a Hadj are in the centre of the so-called (by you) "Muslim World" whereby Christianity has re-located to Rome. I guess with the better climate (read: less arrid) people prefered that enviroment & branched out from there
