As the title reads, are there any stockbrokers amongst us all? You may well not be at liberty to discuss but I'm just interested to know?

Well I'm currently on the hunt for a job (got to get my capital from somewhere) and I was originally going to get into IBanking but I've really been captivated by the market so wealth management may well be for me. The thought of earning my paper doing something I actually enjoyed has never entered my head I've always been of the notion that I want to afford things in life that will cost money that a profession I will enjoy can't provide.

I'd love to become say an analyst/trader/broker for a institution that I can use to benefit myself through my position in the market.

Although on that note... it has been tough to get interviews... Speaking with Patterson's on Tuesday so fingers crossed I can get some work experience or anything going there. The thing is when I eventually have some experience on my CV I'm not going to be that much better than I am- with the mindset I have now whoever hires me is definitely going to get their money's worth- all bull**** aside I'm actually enthusiastic and competitive about starting out, learning and being a force! Sadly every Cover Letter in the world reads somethign similar.

Cheers,

Mal

Yes Mal i know how you feel i graduated not long ago. What can help is if you have an edge such as scholarships. And dont under-estimate the power of networking.

As a student I've done internships in broking. It's not as fun as when you are playing with your own money and investing for yourself :p:

What do you actually mean when you suggest being a broker for an institution?
What do you see as the job involved in this?

I mean trade with an investment banks capital not retail clients.

A friend of mine went into Citibank in London and he said these guys were just trading with maybe billions of dollars. (He was bald for obvious reasons)

That must be the Associate Advisor position advertised by Patersons. Fine place to learn the ropes. One thing I have learned in life is overcoming rejection so if you are determined, willing and able you will get an opportunity.

Good luck with it all. :)

Thanks.

Not an advertised position I just rang about asking questions, sending emails. Well they gave me some work experience next month so any chance to learn is tops- so i'm stoked.
