Hi,
Im trying to install amibroker on my mac with wine.
Has anyone here done it?
I recall coming across a thread previously but can't recall if it was on this forum.
I have installed "wine" and "winetricks" and followed all the instructions at
http://www.davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/
When I try to install Amibroker with wine, I get a message "This program can only be installed on versions of Windows designed for the following processor architectures: X64"
I have also referenced http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=27644
I have also installed the following windows components with winetricks "corefonts mfc42 riched20 wsh57 mdac28".
I have also applied the following overrides with winetricks "msvcrt=native wscript.exe=native".
I do have an intel 64bit processor installed.
Any ideas??

Hi Stockman,
I got your PM but I'll answer here as you've started a new thread. I don't use a Mac, very much a Linux fan but they're both Unix derivatives so they share some similarities.

I use Amibroker on Windows 7 for all my work but I do keep a version installed on Linux just for testing when time allows. I installed it using winetricks on Linux Mint 64 bit version and it installed without any issues. My best guess at the error message you're getting is that perhaps one of the Windows components you installed may be a 32 bit version?

The guy who has the licence to sell Amibroker in India has a setup guide for MT5 on a mac. Not sure if it's any help but the link is below:

http://www.marketcalls.in/metatrader/how-to-install-metatrader-5-on-your-mac-os-machine.html

Amibroker is about the only thing that keeps me using Windows as everything else I use (IB TWS, Zeroline Trader) have fully functioning Linux versions. Amibroker mostly works but I need it to work flawlessly.

Another option is to run Windows on VirtualBox and install Amibroker that way. Unfortunately you lose some of the speed of Amibroker in a virtual environment plus you need to pay for a Windows licence as well.

OzFalcon has a good tutorial about setting up Amibroker in Wine on the Ami 3rd party tools section. The link to the Wine App database is handy too:

I've had a few goes at getting Amibroker working properly in Wine but have more or less given up on using it in a production sense as there are too many issues with certain things that don't quite work. Would love to hear if you get it up and running without any issues.

Thanks Captain,
Thanks for the info, I'll have a look.
I too run amibroker on a windows 7 machine but wanted to install a version on my mac as a backup and testing etc. If i get it working i'll let you know.
Thanks again...

Greetings --

I am not certain if Tomasz Janeczko, author and publisher of AmiBroker, monitors Aussie Stock Forums. I know he does monitor Yahoo AmiBroker Forum. You might post you query there as well as here.

Howard

Actually it's a different site that is the Amibroker seller in India, apologies for posting an incorrect statement. There's some useful info on the marketcalls site nonetheless.

edit: Marketcalls do sell Amibroker licences but are a reseller of the offical seller in India. Hope that makes it clearer. Not that it matters in the context of this thread but I don't like to post anything that may be misleading.

I run Amibroker on OS X using Parallels. It's $90AUD and you need enough disk storage for a Windows VM, but it's incredibly easy to set up and the integration is excellent, it feels like you're running Windows apps natively.
