has anyone else completely lost interest in politics all together?(not that i really ever did to begin with) everyone just seems so incompetent and useless, to the point that in the recent queensland election it angered me that i had to take time out of my day to walk down and mark off my name, only to throw a blank piece of paper of people who i don't want to vote for in a box?

please no one lecture me on the importance of 'having my say'. the fact is the current breed of politicians leave me wanting to have absolutely nothing to do with any of it. it's almost as if all you need is a certain type of personality to get into politics.

only reason i ask is because many threads in here are thriving on discussions on just that.
 

I have not so much lost interest in politics, but lost interest in arguing about politics. It is a pointless exercise.
 

I hate to vote too, especially for the clowns we have representing us these days and that is one of the reasons I don't comment much on the political threads. Luckily I am a silent voter and the papers get sent out to me by mail so I never have to queue up. Quite frankly being forced to vote makes me hate them even more, it should be up to the individual, stuff the lot of them.

Damn right, just save your breath and watch what they do, NEVER listen to what they say.
 
I like to know what would be the voting rate is voting is not compulsory.

With the current crop of clowns... Probably quite low.
 
The whole system is wrong we should be able to vote online, we could have a say online about any matter not that they would listen because they would want a pay rise and the online voter's would say no and force them to make commonsense decisions.
That would be truly democracy.
Think the informal votes just about out number the lead vote now in any seat
We really don't need as many levels of government as we have and all the free loaders .
 
In the 1990's I came close to actually pursuing a political career and certainly had a lot of interest in it.

In 2012 I'd struggle to name a single Minister either state or federal, such is my disgust at the sheer incompetence of those running the show.

Labor, Liberal, Green - none of them are acting in the long term interests of the country / state. All they're interested in is their own narrow agendas and self interest. The sheer lack of knowledge on display, with very few exceptions, is breathtaking.
 
The problem is politicians in general have less respect for those they represent and generally see their own self interest as being increasingly divorced from that of the public at large.
 
I have to agree, for me politics used to be about figuring out who's right - now it's more about figuring out just who is screwing you more than the other guy and by how much

The good news is, you can channel that hate and contempt for the world we now live in, into trying to beat it on the markets
 
Yeah it is a barren landscape, there is a dearth of politicians of any quality. Politics and society is becoming increasingly polarised, spurned on by vapid rhetoric and narrow minds. A pox on them all.

At the next federal election I see no other option but to draw a big c0ck and balls on my ballot paper and throw my arms in the air like I just don't care.

+1, my way is to write "If voting changed anything, they'd make it illegal".

I agree Glen. How come we can BPay, buy shares and transfer tens of thousands of dollars online but we can't vote online?

Why? Can anyone answer why in this day and age of technology this isn't possible?

I had a look at this to see what it was all about. It is a political party with some good ideas. We really need full online voting, I wonder why we can not get there? What is the problem? What is the Government afraid of? Fraud? Surely that can be sorted easily these days. Estonia can do it why can't we?

The reason we dont have it is obvious. It would eventually render politicians useless. If we could all vote online we could cut the members in Parliment by at least half.

With regards to fraud, i would suggest that you use something like your tax file number, plus a few other things, same as the ATO does for their E-Tax.
 
YG I understand your frustation sport, I'm an old fart and I have never seen us in so much trouble when it comes to leadership FOR the country. All the current generation of pollies have a globalist view and make decisions proposed by global interests. The individual pollie may be a friend but when they are part of a party they are an enemy to Australia. But we are not the only ones, every first world country has been sold out to the global corporations, every one. National governments have about as much say on their countries natural resourses and industrial production as a local council, they get told what to do, both sides are stuffed, particularly the Nats because their traitorous acts come from blokes who grew up in districts and not the city, but they learn't quick.

Have a look at the Lima Declaration of about 1973. All the changes we have gone through in the past thirty years that leave us unable to produce anything and a soon to be net importer of food is in there. A plan to demolish our economy, it worked. Both sides of politics signed this treasonous manifesto from the United Nations corporate cogs and we are as poor as we were in 1920.
 
The answer is we have to vote for change and if that change doesn't work vote for change again.
Eventually we will get a good leader with our interests at heart again.

The reason so many independants were elected in the most recent vote is that we didn't want either leaders or their parties.
 
You've hit the nail on the head there. We gave away what we had, and now we're being asked to go a second round with the carbon tax / ETS.
