Janissaries began as elite corps made up through the devşirme system of child levy enslavement, by which Christian Albanians, Bulgarians, Croats, Greeks, Romanians, Serbs, and 1Ukrainians were taken, levied, subjected to forced circumcision and conversion to Islam, and incorporated into the Ottoman army. They became famed for internal cohesion cemented by strict discipline and order. Unlike typical slaves, they were paid regular salaries. Forbidden to marry before 10pthe age of 40 or engage in trade, their complete loyalty to the Sultan was expected.

And for reasons such as these, the one called Dracula remains a folk hero among Romanians.

There is a big difference between Janissaries and modern day Elite Player Slaves who sell themselves to the Saudis.

The former were normal young men who were moulded to act as a team in war, given a new identity i.e. Islam, circumcised, unburdened by marriage until 40 ( they were allowed root afaik) and developed excellence in that environment.

Nadal and his ilk are simple souls burdened by the gift of skill in a small part of their life, do not have group allegiance, and prostitute themselves to a Lord and Master for service alone.

I only envy the golf and tennis Johnnies should I decide to fly coach, at that stage in the flight just under half way, when I realise the quality of my fellow travellers. Otherwise the Janisseries win out.
