Al Jazeera is Winning

You can call me kennas off line gg. :)

Al J seems like they might be Arab-cultural-centric for some reason.

But, who knows. Perhaps they're a CIA front?

The last refuge of a bounder, quoting out of context.

I said

None at all Sir, you bounder, unless you are the Emir of Qatar.

Of course they are arab centric, as is Rupert ????? centric, maybe rupert centric.

Although my favourite source of news is The Australian in print.

But AJ is coming a close second.

gg

RT (Russia Today) for real news on the west. Guests are asked questions quietly and respectfully listened to and given time to talk.

I had to tuned into AJ when l was in Bangkok recently as it was the only English channel in the hotel room and was pleasantly surprised. Very surprised!

RT as Snake mentioned is also pretty good.

The media in Australia/USA is a joke.

I've never tuned in to RT.

Are they on short wave?

I'll google them.

I may have to get the ole crystal set out of the attic.

Al J has no agenda?

I agree with GG. I watch AJ extensively when overseas and think it is an excellent news service. Their reputation of being biased is not really warranted. That was propaganda pushed by the US in the earlier stages of the Iraq war to try and discredit AJ's stories of civilian casualties caused by the US and stories of torture of prisoners held at the behest of the US by the Iraqis. Those stores turned out to be true. There is footage from that time of the US military deliberately targeting AJ reporters.

RT real news? It's kind of a slightly more extreme equivalent of US Fox News. You know it's owned by the Russian government right??

Anybody with half a brain knows most Aussie news is designed for bogans, biggest story of the day some propoganda **** about police keeping the streets safe. CNN/BBC are slightly better but still crap.

Fox news... on par with today tonight.

CNBC/Bloomberg.. yea they run out of **** to talk about so they start making stuff up as they go i think.

I personally use CNN but just for the breaking news feeds and Bloomberg/Reuters for most the news. Al Jazeera is doing what CNN has been trying to do for sometime that is break into the mass middle eastern market but its hard to break into the mass market with reporters who dont wear vaels.

Fox news... on par with today tonight.

Some of their stories are like the fare on Today Tonight. But they are also nefarious in their reporting. They deliberately misinform and are pushing a republican agenda. Although we all regard Australian media sources as having some bias (ABC to Labor, The Australian to the coalition etc.), Fox unashamedly exhibits extreme pro-GOP anti Democrat bias. Possibly the worst main new service available in the West.

I'm pleased that I'm not the only one that enjoys some AJ, the way some western media portrays AJ gives the impression only terrorists watch it. By the way you can stream it free online at http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now/ also we all most likely on the ASIS watch list now:D

Be assured we are not. A lass I know who drinks at the Ross Island Hotel who is an ASIS operative, ex ADF , assures me they have moved on from chasing shadows.

Then she would !

They are much in to bikies/right wing nuts, aryanists,/ Islamists/ Israeli agents and Cyber criminals and developers.

And not necessarily in that order.

All pillow talk, so make of it what you will.

Just can't believe it!!!:eek::eek::eek:

Warmly agreeing with GG.

A friend of mine introduced me to the Al Jazeera news recently. Very, very impressed with the breadth and quality of the it's operations.

Of course from the US point of view any news organization that opened debate on American practices in Iraq needs a damn good seeing to.

For those caught up in a fiat currency and debt world, a western dominated system, then it might seem extreme as a lot of content challenges what most in the west are brainwashed with.

I haven't seen any critical coment on Russia on the news but it's good for what is not reported on the west in the west. I watched it with that in mind though. I couldn't expect the old commie ways to be totally purged now could I? Bush told everyone we were free, freedom etc blah blah....

Here is a good example of a documentary on Al Jazeera

People & Power - On a wing and a prayer

And some replies to this doco...

Al Jazeera is probably the only network in the world not influenced by corporate America? Maybe thats why? :p

No American network would even have the balls to even investigate this, regardless of which point of view one takes on this.

Al Jazeera is often to seen by many to have more credibility and investigative ability than American media.
