I'd appreciate forum members' views about whether the following is genuine.
It arrived in my email inbox today and seems somewhat different from previous Adobe Reader updates. Clicking on the Download link the viewer is asked to enter user name password etc which i don't recall ever doing in the past.

Am I being unreasonably suspicious?

If your Adobe isn't automatically looking for updates (instead of via email), next time you open Adobe, select help > check for updates to get the latest version.

I deleted because they sent me to my two emails address which is very suspicious.

Many thanks both of you. Good to have confirmation of my suspicion.

Doesn't everyone's Adobe update automatically?

Mine informs me when there is a new update and then asks me if I want to update there and then. The request comes from the program itself. Each time I open the program (ie click on a PDF file), the program checks to see if there is an updated version and if there is, it asks me if I want to upgrade. Julie got the request via an unsolicited email, which rightly raised her suspicions.

Julia, I got that email as well. It looked sus, so instead I opened my Adobe Reader and asked Adobe if there was a new update = no.
