.......asking that indigenous AFL players be recognised for their hard work and training, not just their so called 'freaky' skills.
In particular, Goodsy talks about breaking the cycle of cliches that mar perceptions of indigenous players as a microcosm of indigenous culture and society.
Western Sydney University professor David Rowe has written extensively on culture, sport and society, and said he is "pretty horrified" by the online reaction.
"[I'm] not entirely surprised, I suppose because of the booing — either physical or virtual — has continued despite protests and representations over some time," Professor Rowe said.
I recall looking at the debate at the time when all the booing was going on, especially at its height... and I'm sorry, for me it ultimately came down to the fact that this was racism and it had little to do with sport.
Professor David Rowe
"This is an extension of that, it's just moved into a different realm, we've now moved into retail.
"Retail racism, I think we could call it."

Well well well ... no one booed Adam Goodes when the Swans were winning the Premiership or playing in the finals back then, not until he started playing for free kicks and performing dirty behind play antics did he get the crowd off side. The spear chucking incident did not help his cause one bit either.
But hey, they guy above me is a professor ... he must be right
So exactly why did a certain number of people decide to abuse Adam Goodes racially on the David Jones website ? Was he ducking his head again ? Dancing for the audience ?
Perhaps they are just online head kickers who can't resist an opportunity to trash someone they have previously enjoyed kicking the xxxx out of.
But then in Australia we all have the right to be bigots don't we ?

It's a sad state of affairs when someone stands up for himself and his race instead of being meek and submissive.
Goodes is hardly a "Black Power" advocate, he just wants people educated out of racism which I think is fair enough.
Booing a professional footballer that whinges to the umpires and soccer dives deserves to be booed. Being called an "ape" by a 13 year old girl is pure racism and needs to be stamped out ... period.
Please note this is not Adam Goodes but merely a representation of what Adam Goodes did on the footy field ...

This is what Adam Goodes did with Murray Rance and was not charged for "STAGING" as the AFL ruled no contact was actually made ... Pfffffffffffffttttttttttt !!!

Funny that Steve Johnson can get away with outrageous cr@p on the field (like having a go at McVeighs nuts) and still be treated like a hero, but all it takes is for Goodes to step out of line once and he's the devil incarnate.
Hero to zero.
Fr1cken Swans supporters are getting to be worse than the Pies tragics
I don't think the booing had anything to do with his colour and everything to do with many other factors.
There are a lot of indigenous players in the AFL and they don't get the same treatment.
People continue to call it racism, conveniently to suit their argument.
I agree. Being "Australian of the Year", Goodes crossed over from "sports hero" to "political hero".
Half of the population "boo" the Prime Minister at any sporting event irrespective of if they are "Labor" or "Liberal" (read colour).
I don't think Adam will be strapping on any political boots in the near future.
