Sharing a few Cuban Cigars with @garpal Gumnuts at the Hilton Hotel we were wondering out aloud if it would be possible to put a stop to Stock Chat during high Societal Crisis?

It does get a bit tiring trawling through recent threads with some persons ramping unethical businesses like Tesla, FMG etc or some emerging Markets. It sounds like a conference of Gordon Gecko wannabes.

Tesla's latest venture in limiting weld points in Telsa 3s to get them out the door faster or FMG's having Roads moved to aid there business I could not give a rats about.
These and other inconsequential topics are more adduced to Twitter than ASF

The General Chat is the main game where retired Men and Women stay mentally sharp posting CCP propoganda, left wing Lebanese post Guardian articles, right wing lunatics post the latest conspiracy theory and grumpy old Men complain about WA's border. It's fabulous stuff!

There is a distinct lack of quality comedy on our TVs at the moment. ASF general chat fills this void. General Chat IS the main game!

And why hasn't Garpul Gumnuts been knighted for services to ASF?

@joeblow I thought we couldn't have two accounts:D

@Garpal Gumnut, is that you?

I'm not getting any multiple account alerts, so if it is someone's second account so far they have managed to bypass my sophisticated multiple account detection technology.

However, for the avoidance of doubt I must make the following very clear.

1. Stock chat is not going anywhere.
2. If anything, General Chat will be abolished because it is a constant thorn in my side.

We are sorry you missed Sir Garpal's elevation when you participated in the BLM riots.

gg is indisposed till 4:10pm, as his July pick AR9, having risen to par with my TNT in the last 6 hours of trading, is showing slippage, or as they call it in Qld, "Hesitation with intent to Loiter". All will be revealed

Sadly stock chat is not going anywhere. C'mon peoples, lets talk about stocks. To paraphrase Willie Sutton:
"Why should we talk about stocks?"
"Because that's where the money is."

And there is probably a drop off in stock chat because of the tedious, inane, petty, vituperative, rebarbative, prolix content being spewed out in General Chat.

(PS there is no Extreme Societal Crisis)

Let's not start Forum wars again pleeeaaase !

The issue has never gone away. Little has changed. The lack of stock chat at ASF is the only threat to its continued existence. I've explained why more than once but some people don't listen or just don't care, and most importantly don't seem to appreciate the damage that is being done.

There is, as ever @Joe Blow only the one of me.

I am unique.

No, it is not I.

I flee the plague tomorrow for warmer climes.

Any minute now:D

Once we get lockdown part II cranking.
"Australian stocks notched up their fourth consecutive month of gains despite a 2 per cent sell-off on Friday".

Tough luck to those that have missed this run. (dartboard optional).

And it doesn't have to be like that does it ? There can be and have been constructive discussions/conversations on ASF. We have some excellent expertise amongst our posters and when their voice is respected we all learn something new (I think..)

But I agree. The last few months has seen awful examples of maddening, insane, toing and froing that have destroyed any semblance of logic or evidence based discussion.

And I'm struggling to recall the more constructive threads. (but they may be there..) Frustrating and sad.:(

Well again we reach a point where a site starts eating itself, a real turn off.

Afaic this thread should be erased for promoting conflict and silly arguing. I know it was tongue in cheek and humour has gone out the window these days but this type of thread is just looking for a fight.

Just walk away.

People need to get off the left/right binary tribalist bandwagon. It's boring. What's missing in nuanced discussion and debate. What we get is predictable left/right mudslinging.

Left/right politics is all played out. Life isn't black and white, neither is politics, but (some) people argue like it is.

I agree with you

There are many (including within my family) that get Really steamed up about politics.

The thing I find interesting is that within my circle it is always those who lean left that get irate, the righties are all a bit blase about it all.

Worth repeating x 1000 :xyxthumbs

As for the original subject, well discussing stocks on a stock market forum seems a rather good fit yes. Not exactly out of place. ;)

In other shock news, there's drunk people at the pub and apparently some bloke was on about religion at church last Sunday. I also have on good authority that the library has quite a lot of books sitting on shelves.

Gave it a serious thought once but since then I've seen more than enough of it first hand to know what it's really about.

Any ordinary person would be better off focusing on literally anything else. From Mozart through to cheesy pop music, from gardening to engineering, you'll find more actual benefit in focusing your time on anything at all other than politics.

Some of the issues which come up in politics are serious, worthwhile subjects and some even have investment potential. The politics itself is pointless though and usually just an obstacle to fixing the actual problem. :2twocents
