The Ukrainian ambassador to Australia has demanded a meeting with ABC management over the airing of a Four Corners episode on Monday night that, according to the show’s website, “offered a human perspective on life on the Russian frontline”.

Ukrainian ambassador Vasyl Myroshnychenko released an extraordinary statement on Tuesday morning, slamming the program’s “propaganda narratives emanating from the Kremlin” publicly requesting an audience with ABC boss David Anderson and the executive producer of Four Corners, Matthew Carney.

“The program aired last night on Four Corners, ‘Ukraine’s War: The Other Side’ was the journalistic equivalent of a bowl of vomit,” Mr Myroshnychenko said in his statement.

“It unquestioningly repeated and aired countless blatant lies, historical distortions, racist claims and propaganda narratives emanating from the Kremlin.

“Inasmuch, it completely served the interests of Russia’s dictator, Putin. It also minimised and denigrated the deaths of thousands of innocent Ukrainian men, women and children who have been killed by Russian soldiers in an illegal and brutal invasion strongly condemned by Australia and the majority of countries through the UNGA resolution in March 2022.

“The Australian Broadcasting Corporation should be ashamed that it put such total garbage to air.

“Through the Minister for Communications, I will ask for a meeting with the Managing Director of the ABC and the Executive Producer of Four Corners to understand what process led to the airing of this pro-Putin and pro-violence propaganda piece by Australia’s national broadcaster. I will share with them the facts that the program totally disregarded.”

The 45-minute documentary that was put to air by Four Corners was the work of British journalist and film-maker Sean Langan.

Sounds like the ABC may be getting back to what it used to do, give both sides of a story, now they can fact check it.

I didn't watch it, but both sides have a right to a say as long as there is no political interference, or then it becomes propaganda.

In reality we as individuals have no idea what is going on over there, other than what is presented by the media and the fact that Ukraine didn't ask to be invaded.
So the fact that Russia is the aggressor is pertinent and quite important in the scheme of things.
 
Well two shots in one day, maybe a new day is dawning for the ABC, call it as it is and let the truth come out, that's what the ABC used to do.

It might not be nice, but as a public funded media, the hard calls have to be made and the cards have to fall as they fall.

The ABC isn't there to decide who gets the best hand, they are there to deal out the facts, irrespective of preferences.

IMV it's up to the producers or senior editors not to allocate assignments to staff where they could have a bias.

Again , the lower ranks get kicked and the management gets off scot free.

Very true, the articles and thrust of the articles have to be cleared by someone, well they used to be, these days who knows.

Yes good point, maybe it is free range reporting at some media outlets, many workplaces have tried delegating the responsibility to the cliff face.
It is a very risky game plan though, from my experience.

This is because Labor puts a much higher priority on infrastructure and generates far better economic outcomes overall.

Last month’s Stats Bureau announcement that total construction in the December quarter last year was the highest since 2015 warranted mention. Naturally, the Murdoch press ignored this. So did ABC News.

It's good to see they are at last treating both sides of politics, with the same disregard for accuracy. It is the first negative article written by the ABC in years, maybe AI wrote it, I certainly can't believe any of their regular staff would have stated any negative facts.

At least now both left and right have something to complain about.
Maybe the ABC's ratings will improve, rather than just having loony left followers, they may pick up some loony right ones now. LOL

Here's a good write up, of Albo coping a bit of crap at the women against DV rally, but in the name of balanced reporting Tony Abbott and Scott Morrison get a footnote.

Maybe the ABC is starting to recognise their charter, that all sides need to be held to the same coverage, accountability and scrutiny.

Sometimes they will get it wrong and IMO that's ok, as long as it isn't always wrong to the one side. LOL

The Murdoch press gets things wrong all the time, according to some, but then the same people quote them when they feel they have got it right.
There's no pleasing some people. LOL

It sounds like the lower ranks are kicking back, maybe management can "fact Check" this.

Over a quarter of people surveyed also claimed to have been bullied, with female staff twice as likely to be a victim.

5% of the 399 people who experienced bullying said they did not make a formal complaint, 65% did, and only 30% felt supported by their manager.

The survey, conducted by the Australian National University’s Social Research Centre on behalf of the ABC, also found that approximately 30% of female respondents reported feeling unsafe at work.
 
Not surprising in any workplace, but the virtuous ABC getting hoisted on their own petard is rather amusing.
 
or the fact that the current government have just been stright pathetic, one of the worst we have seen?
