Only caught half of it.

They got some consultant in to "revitalize" Perth.

The verdict? Boring and full of signs "don't do this don't do that" and built around roads... tough job.

Final comment (paraphrasing) - "Do you want be known as a quarry or a vibrant city?"

Anyone see it?

Comments?

Didn't see it, Wayne, but...
a) Perth is anything but boring, and
b) so much money around that temptation has trapped 3 state ministers lately - boring? lol

PS Perth is only boring when they interview the likes of Ms Rose Porteus - as if she has anything to teach common aussies about values.

Perth is boring, and expensive, and the weather is bad, and the crime is bad, and the employment prospects are poor, and there aren't enough car parks, and the food is terrible, and there is no culture, and the schools are poor... there is no reason for people from Sydney, Melbourne or anywhere else to move to Perth.

Everyone just stay away from Perth...

...and let me enjoy the lifestyle to which I have always been accustomed! I love it here.

Perth, WA

(WA = Wait Awhile... just the way we like it!)

There's alot of young punks getting drunk and causing trouble in Perth. Gate grashing house parties etc. why?

Cause they are bored.

I think Perth is a wonderful city, but in world terms, yep it is boring alright. No doubt about it. I was bored there myself.

As it grows it'll just get better and better, and more vibrant and exciting.

Boring is not a bad thing. If you live there, have a nice house, lots of friends and a good job, what else do you need?

Yes, I did see it today Wayne. The consultant you speak of is Charles Landry. I have read most of his articles and publications over the years. His most famous work is 'The Creative City'

And in all reality, he has been doing a lot of work here for at least 5 years now. As can be seen here:
http://www.planning.wa.gov.au/publications/futureperth/workingpapers/paper12.pdf

and then later those ideas were used for this paper:
http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/mediaFiles/dialogue_GPdp9.pdf

You may also like to check up on Richard Florida and his economic/ social ideas. These two guys share a lot of similarities.

The most interesting idea from Landry is the one regarding the convention centre. Leasing it out to a university is brilliant IMO. Just about all of Perth's uni's and tech colleges are overcrowded. And you can see the positive impact a place like Notre Dame has had on the dead and dangerous aspects of the west end of Freo for instance. It would be a great way to link people to the Perth foreshore.

A transcript for this story should be available on the Stateline sight during the week.

Hope this helps.

Chops.

Not only are we boring but utterly corrupt and a complete bunch of cowboys giddy up.

Wabbitt I am with you LOL

I want Perth to become a Ghost Town. This is so I can buy some property(commercial and residential) at a reasonable price.

I want to get my asset position and business positioned to take full advantage of the next boom/business cycle.

Everyone tells me it's never going to happen because of the Resources Boom, but all the news/indicators coming from the US and Eastern States tell me otherwise.

We are far from being bored with Perth

Yes, I agree. I came to Perth in 1990. I can tell you it was so boring at that time that you cannot imagine. No city/suburbs shopping centres were opened (except those markets where people normally buy cheap vegs and fruits) on Sunday. No night city shopping at that time. Lots of old bombs running around in the streets that you thought you were in a car museum. It has been improved a lot since then. Now, you can see a lot of new cars running around.

wabbit!!!...you forgot the drug dealers, rapists house breakings lack of police, flooding, oceans full of stingers sharks and other bities...no fish... rottingnest..polluted beaches...black sand...rats, mice, the plague..sun never shines

DON'T COME TO PERTH!...............ALL JUST STAY AWAY!
please?

If you listen to the opinion of many, anywhere other than inner Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or the Gold Coast is "boring".

Life is what you make of it. Personally I'd rather go for a walk in the bush 5 minutes (walk) from my front door down here in Tas than live in central Melbourne / Sydney / Brisbane any day. Though I'd rather not be thundered on as happened this afternoon (actually all these thunderstorms and humidity (neither of which are common here) is making me think I'm in Queensland anyway).

No doubt it's a similar story in Perth. Make the most of what is on offer rather than constantly comparing to Sydney etc and you shouldn't be bored. Same with Adelaide or any regional area.

Actually, I'm not joking when I say that I've never been anywhere more boring in Australia (as a tourist) than Melbourne. Only thing it has going for it IMO is the big sporting events, concerts etc. But then I've had far more fun at concerts in Adelaide than in Melbourne - the audience in Adelaide just seems to get into it more and the whole place doesn't have that authoritarian feel that Melbourne does.

what was that old quote by Ava Gardner - starring in the movie based on neville shute's "On the Beach"
" It's a story about the end of the world - and what better place than Melbourne to make it" , lol (APOLOGIES TO ALL MY mELBOURNE MATES LOL)
(To be fair, they sure like their sport - anyone remember the State of Origin Qld/NSW rugby to packed house in Melbourne?)

I remember in a survey that was analysed on TV - that there were more suicides in Sydney than Melbourne - the expert commentator dismissed this, adding "yes, but that assumes that you're actually alive if you live in Melbourne" -
- bit below the belt that one

I agree, Adelaide is the arts city let's face it

For people that live in Sydney/Melb and don't idolise a country retirement, Perth is boring.

I grew up in Adelaide, lived (existed??) in Sydney for 14 years, have lived in the ACT, Norfolk (Virginia USA), Chicago, San Diego and have also visited more countries/cities than I can remember.. Perth is NOT boring..

However, I'm more than happy for the majority to believe so..

OR, Perhaps I'm just boring..

Cheers,

Buster.

Comes down to personal taste I guess...I know when I was there for 6 months I was quite bored, except went to the casino where the poker game was favourable

why doesnt a perthian (or whatever the word is) post up a weekday schedule and a weekend schedule and let ASF decide

Shoooooosh!.....................Perth is boring....... ok
