hello,

Bart Cummings, what a legend 12 in the cupboard at home for the race that stops a nation,

awesome effort and demonstrates why people should keep going in life with their career/job/hobby etc instead of getting rolled into those places called nursing homes

what a day

thankyou

Re: 80 year old Bart Cummings, Legend

Well, he is successful but I thought he sounded like a grumpy old man!

When asked if he found the win emotional he said something like 'Not really, it is just another win'. Would have liked to have seen a little more joy and excitement - if winning the Melbourne Cup doesn't raise the emotions then it must be a boring life for him.

yep top notch stuff yet again bart , ozzie bleedin legend , keeping an ozzie prize in australia ......... your a star , well done, keep the melbourne cup where it belongs

They will have to change the words on the sculpture of him at Flemington.
What can anyone say, well done!

I saw bart on t.v yesterday saying he thought septimus was the best horse in the race by far.

That old hustler talked down his own horse and praised the favourite. If he's still with us next year, I won't care what he says, I'm going all in on his ride.

Hello,

How come you can write Bart Cummings here, but in the Day Traders chat room, you cant put in Barts surname system seems to think it is a rude word, anyway Bart well done, you are still a sly old fox, back in the days when Bart had a full stable and had horses running in nearly every race on Saturday it was always best to back the one, he reckoned was second best, especially if he had Hand Brake Harry on the favourite.

Regards

I don't get all the fuss about Bart Cummings' horse. What about the horse who missed the 'win' by about a whisker? How is that Bart is the great God of horse racing and the trainer/owner/jockey/horse which essentially reached the line at the same time rates not a single mention?

I agree with Prospector's comments. Thought he was quite ungracious in his win.

um ..... winning 12 melbourne cups is a pretty big feat i would think

Hello,
Bart is 80 years old, thats pretty old and so he can be a grumpy as he likes.

I intended to be very grumpy if I am lucky enough to make it that far.

I am going to get so much revenge for what my kids inflicted on me whilst they were growing up

Regards

I heard a story that a caller related about Bart Cummings...on Adelaide radio this morning...
When told that jockey Beadman was joining the ministry, and had got a calling from God.
Bart replied "I hope that he got a second opinion."
I enjoy his laid back style. He does not take himself or the media too seriously.

Because Bart has done it 12 times and he does it with horses that on form appear to have little hope.

Bart is not a great trainer in terms of winners over various distances but he is the greatest 3200 mtr trainer in the world and one of the greatest staying trainers in the world.

Time and time again he has proved his doubters wrong and he is an absolute genius.

The old saying sums up your question as to regards to the second horse.

"Winners are grinners and the rest can please themselves"

Bart usually ends up smiling.

I heard another interview with Bart and the jockey last night. I suspect the jocky was very very lucky that he hung on to win, as Bart made it very clear that the jockey had moved to the front much earlier than he was instructed to do. As Julia said, a nano-second later and things would have been very very different.

I still think he is a grumpy old man : Albeit successful, but what is the point of success when you don't seem to really enjoy it! That was more my point I guess!

Bart usually ends up smiling.

Damn, I missed it!

He is also quite an introvert and prefers the company of his staff and friends to those of the media and hanger ons.

There are different ways to enjoy things and just because he doesn't jump up and down doesn't mean he has enjoyed it any less than others.

I bet there were many smiles last night as he ate dinner with his owners, staff and friends.

Sure, I appreciate Cummings has trained a lot of winners. What I was trying to get at - ignored by everyone except Prospector - is that the two horses essentially reached the finish line at the same time, and absolutely no attention was given to the "second" horse.

See my reply to your post on the Ch 7 Coverage thread. In studying the photo finish pics this morning, I noticed that Bauer was ahead in every aspect except his head. He missed out because he is a much smaller horse.

It wasn't ignored by me Julia

Thanks to you both for these comments. Sorry, Rea1ty, to have neglected to acknowledge your earlier post.

Just seems so unfair to me.
