For those of you who understand the US economy.
Is it correct to say that food stamps are what you get when your unemployment benefits run out? Or do you get it with unemployment benefits?

How do food stamps get used i.e. how do you get the food?

Thanks

I remember mum using food stamps when I was really young in LA. At the time you took the stamps along to certain stores and spent them like cash... can't remember how they were acquired however.

Thanks for the information.
The US system appears to be very different from Australia.
