Welcome to the 2025 Full Year Stock Tipping Competition fellow ASF members.

Firstly, thanks to @debtfree for taking this on originally, and keeping us updated for the past few years.
He is taking a well earned break.
I was reluctant to take this one as he set such a high standard, but as long as everyone accepts that the standards will be somewhat lower, all should be fine.
Because I was a bit late in taking this one on, thanks to a suggestion from @Dona Ferentes , the entries will close on Jan 13th.
Anyone who gets their entries in by Dec 31st will have a bonus picks in that they can change one and only one tock up until Sunday Jan 12th.

Thanks again to @Sean K for generously offering to donate the prizes, and sop I will keep them the same as the previous years comp.
I was going to offer some of my hopme made pastry as prizes, luckily @Sean K came to the party before committing to my culinary skills.

The cash prizes are below:

1st - $500 Bunnings gift voucher.
2nd - $250 Total tools Gift voucher - Courtesy of @UMike (2024 Competition Winner)
3rd - $100
Last - $100

** Just a reminder that no changes of entries are allowed during the year, so please choose carefully and with a 12 month time frame in mind.
All stocks selected must be $0.10 or more at the time of entry.

The rules for the Full CY 2025 Stock Tipping Competition are as follows:
  • Each entrant must select four ASX listed stocks.
  • No stocks that are trading at less than $0.10 on the day of entry may be entered.
  • A stock must have traded at least $100,000 in value in the five trading days prior to entry to be eligible.
  • To qualify for the competition and prizes you must:
    • post in the thread of each of your entries detailing why you think the share price of each will increase in 2025.
    • at the end of each month post an update in the thread of each of your competition entries with an update such as: if your reason for picking them still exists or just a general update on how they are going.
  • If a stock is taken over it can be replaced. The exit price shall be taken to be the takeover price. The new stock must be nominated before the date the taken over stock ceases trading and the entry price of the new stock shall be taken to be the closing price on the day the taken over stock ceases trading. The replacement stock pick chosen will have its opening price on the day that the stock is choses adjusted to reflect the price increase or decrease of the original stock chosen Does that make sense?
  • The competition will run from Monday, 13 January 2025 to Wednesday, 31 December 2025.
  • Entry prices will be the price at the close of trading on Friday, 10 January 2025.
Entries are now open. Please enter at your convenience by posting your entries in this thread.

Entries will be taken up to Midnight on Sunday 12 Jan 2025 .

In a departure from past comps, to make life easier for myself, I am only going to take into account the capita gains, so any entities that pay dividends will NOT have their prices adjusted to allow for dividends. Yeah, I'm lazy.

If you have any comments, feedback, or questions, please post them in this thread.

fair warning

a strategy change ( for me ) is now being contemplated ( thanks )

wowee that makes selecting four reverse index ETFs , very tempting to the pessimists and bears among us

i did ask a question on the 2024 thread , about stock-splits and consolidations

there may or may not be several of them in 2025

... and thank you for taking over the comp. administration , i hope software glitches do not drive you crazy

cheers

Stock splits/consolidations should not be a big deal for adjustments/

Its too late. I am already crazy.
Mick

Stock splits/consolidations should not be a big deal for adjustments/
well if we are determining the stock price , a stock-split of say one into ten new shares of say CSL will certainly confuse your algo

and if say BPT wanted to dual list on the US exchanges it would need a share consolidation of five into one , or more likely ten into one

just asking because i have been tangled up with several of these over the last 12 years ( APE , CSR , BSL , as examples to illustrate this does not just happen to penny dreadfuls )

in BSL they turned six 40 cent shares into a new $2.40 share while APE went the other way , and the MQG consolidation ( after divesting the SYD holding ) , turned out to be relatively insignificant , in the long run

cheers

... OK to shock everybody awake

my four selections are ... ( have you sat down yet ? )

PME (PRO MEDICUS LIMITED)

MQG ( MACQUARIE GROUP LIMITED )

TNE ( TECHNOLOGY ONE LIMITED )

VAS ( VANGUARD AUSTRALIAN SHARES INDEX ETF )

i hold all four stock at NO capital risk , they are all part of the profits left to run

good luck to all the entrants

last year i tried total return ( divs. and price rises , this year i use sledge-hammer ( and ETFs bloating market caps. ):roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

BTW they all seem to have traded over $100,000 worth last Friday .. but double check that

Good afternoon @mullokintyre
Most kind of you to take this beast on ... well done.
Thanks also to @Sean K for again putting up some of his well-earned coin for prizes.

STX;
INF;

Kind regards
rcw1
@mullokintyre ... rcw1 was bold and nominated INF. Very naughty as not $0.10 ... pay to fully read the rule before nominating ha ha ha ha

cart before the horse :)

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo,

rcw1 will nominate SBM as a replacement.

Kind regards
rcw1

Mick you're a champion. I'm going to donate my winning prizemoney to you at the EOY.

I've got a few copper dogs that might perk up next year. Here they are.

29M - 29Metals (copper miner).
A1M - AIC Mines (copper miner)
AIS - Aeris Resources (copper miner)
BC8 - Black Cat Syndicate (gold miner)

I was going to pass again doing this until I saw there was a prize for coming Last :)

A bunch of Hail Mary stocks for a fun 2025.

BRN - The year for Neuromorphic computing
VBTC - Trump/Saylor Effect and Strategic BTC Reserves popping up
IMU - One of these drug candidates might actually land
AXE - Quantum Computing

Good Luck to all players!

Great work Mick!

Looking forward to donating some tools.

I was going to go all copper, but Pete beat me too it, so:

My picks are:

PDI: will be taken over by PRU for around 32c.
SVM: will be taken over by RIO for about $1.06.
MEI: China will blockade Taiwan and rare earths will go nuts.
SVL: they will put a power annex into their mining app which will be approved.

SK

I'm unsure how to go for next year's competition. I usually pick 3 stable stocks e.g bank, big miner or conglomerate and one stark raving mad runner which could explode on me or go to 100% gain. I notice members this year are letting their hair down and going for some interesting runners.

Nice one Mick. Much appreciated . Given my spectacular success in sweeping the floor in 2024 I will have to give careful consideration to how I can replicate a 34% loss across 4 choices yet again... :cautious:

Well done

well div. yield is irrelevant this year ,

so the obvious strategies are to go for absolute capital gains OR stocks that should resist capital losses

but i note one member going for likely take-over targets ( and that might work as well )

so will the market retrace to sensible valuations , or will insanity prevail and we have a melt-up ?

@mullokintyre Just found that you are the brave(?) soul Mick for the yearly Comp.
My picks are
FMG
WES
WBC
PLS
Nothing startling with these picks. Just hoping for some consistent green throughout the year.

Good one Mick.
Was thinking of stepping up but still working in Thailand and have no idea how that is going to end up over the year.
Going to Go:
DRO
KCN
PLY
CVN
Picked CVN over STO due to Divies not being Counted.

These are fairly beaten up stocks over 2024 and as the resident bottom picker hoping for a bit of a kick in 2025.
Still think I might be a bit of a downer year so we'll see how it goes.

Interesting year coming up, I reckon, so let's go with a bit of diversity.

Many thanks to @mullokintyre for running this upcoming competition, @debtfree for all of the hard work in this year's competition, and @Sean K for the continuing sponsorship. :xyxthumbs

Ok, so here goes:

LRK
ORG
QOR
SRG

Good luck to all participants and here's to a great trading year in 2025!

I want to do better this year so trying to research now. Will be wasted tomorrow so doing now late tonight.

SPZ - car parking stock based in the UK that I wanted to pick last year but not enough volume, and is now a 3 bagger. will keep going up.
PIQ - unloved biotech with a lot of things happening next year. Might take off. Could be a 5 bagger.

A trade war set off by Trump will help mining companies as China limits trade in response so:

CHN - a few catalysts this coming year. Might be in a lot better position. (2.5 bagger according to Bell Potter)
SVM - Seems a lot is happening and price has been continuously rising which is a big plus. Flake Graphite seems an ideal thing to mine with all the future battery needs and they appear to have a very large resource. (Notice in thread that SeanK thinks Rio might take it over, they are involved)

If any of these are disallowed then EXP is my next tip (guess). Might be a takeover occurring or at least a turnaround in profit.

It took me all of 38 seconds to pick the four stocks for next years comp.

WBC - need a stable bank in the stable, this year its Westpac's turn.
COL - need a community based retailer in the stable.
ALK - need a goldie in my Stable, this time its AK 's turn.
MKR - because it is a going to be a silver producer.
