Australian (ASX) Stock Market Forum

Ta tah

You were a good contributor tothemax6 and the input of such thinkers as yourself is what keeps me coming back.

I too hit a brick wall with myself on ASF awhile back but realised I perhaps need the discussions sometimes much more than anyone needs me around.

Of course when things are down there is a very generous undercurrent of friends on ASF who come along to prop one up at just the right time.

Sorry to see you go. :(

Agree Explod. It's good to know we can still show neighbourly type kindness when another poster is down no matter what the differences of opinion might be when we are in full flight...:D

I noticed that sense of caring during the Qld floods and I think it makes the ASF community generally something special...:)

devices such as irony and sarcasm. Hell, there is even some slapstick humour at times. There's plenty of spirit and a wide variety of personalities on here. Depends how literally you read every post, I believe.

Probably right.

Irony and sarcasm are very difficult to interpret when writing in a forum. I'm reluctant to use those "devices" when communicating in a forum environment - putting those silly :rolleyes::eek::D:cautious::2twocents in a post to communicate how your feeling about something is a joke.

Personally, I think some people here are way too caught up with their own self importance - I understand where tothemax is coming from.

Whilst there is some cynicism amongst the masses, quite a few of the better posters here are quite adept at lining their posts with humor (and witticism) devices such as irony and sarcasm.
Some people have most of their body weight contained in the cerebrum. No wonder they complain about pains in the neck. :D

Probably the right decision, if you are not having fun, not learning - what's the point. I find it difficult to find much humor here. Cynicism, chest beating and one upmanship doesn't make for a good forum. Maybe it's the wrong format., maybe it's just the people attracted to a forum with the word "Aussie" in it.

BTW I like the title of the post - kind of sums it up.

LC, Ask not what your forum can do for you, but what you can do for your forum.

BTW I like your username - kind of sums it up.

You will be missed by me.

My username relates to a business idea that I'd like to try but am a bit scared and reluctant to do so.

I want to open a bar in Melbourne that can only fit about 6 people max - my idea is based on the small bars I've seen in Germany and Holland.

The location would have to be perfect, Fitzroy, Collingwood, one of those hole in the walls, cheap rent and a little bit away from the main drag. My bar would only be limited to one or two types of beer and Gin.

The bar would be called Life Choices - which as you say "sums it up"

I just need to work up the guts to actually do this.

I seem to recall some months ago your posting about what seemed like a crisis with your teenage son. You received many sympathetic and supportive posts.

I think you're under-estimating this community.

And, as has already been suggested, maybe think about what you can contribute, rather than what you acquire.

I have had and do have many friends in Victoria, many now deceased and some now living at Ararat, Barwon and Beechworth who are used to cramped conditions.

I shall urge them to visit your hostelry when it opens.

Thanks for coming !!!.
which is worst 100 E or the shares???

The euro cannot get any worse. Who knows with MQG.

I find this forum a bit of hard work.

One of the major difficulties is I can only quote your last post, but this doesn't include what you were quoting.

Yes you are right - there are many forum members, like yourself and others, who are quite unlike some of the misguided chest beaters on here.

While I'm at it ..... The other bit of hard work for me on this forum is:

1: Why do I have to click Quick links > Todays Posts > the post I want to choose > last page?

That is four clicks and pages to load in order to get the very last post in the forum.

Then I often have to scroll down to the bottom which is all ads and crap I don't understand and scroll up from there to find what to respond to.

I'm a computer buffoon and even this is way too much information.

I found this thread surprisingly worthwhile to read! There have been some great posts with some really thought-provoking points, and I think a few people's true colours have shone through a little. I really like the alcohol analogy; too much can make a good person temporarily seem bad and be damaging to them, and moderation can be difficult.

Good on you for saying goodbye rather than just vanishing. The 'noise' on any online forum can be pretty bad, and often it's almost impossible to contribute without being a part of that problem, but there can be value in it too. If you know enough for there to be nothing left for the people of this forum to teach you, you know more than I do! ;) Good luck, ta tah :)

One of the major difficulties is I can only quote your last post, but this doesn't include what you were quoting.

I don't know of any forum software that does this. However, try using the MultiQuote button (Multi+) which will allow you select a number of posts to quote in your reply. They are automatically quoted in the order in which they are selected.

1: Why do I have to click Quick links > Todays Posts > the post I want to choose > last page?

I can save you at least one click, possibly more.

Try using the "New Posts" link in the navigation bar as your first stop for checking recent forum activity. This will display all threads that have been updated since the end of your last forum session (i.e. a logout or 30 minutes with no interaction with the forum).

If you wish to use "Today's Posts" to check other threads that were updated earlier in the day, you don't need to click on the thread title and then "Last Page" to get to the last post. Next to the name of the person who made the last post is this symbol -
lastpost-right.png
- which, when clicked, will automatically take you to the most recent post in that thread.

Then I often have to scroll down to the bottom which is all ads and crap I don't understand and scroll up from there to find what to respond to.

To get up to the top of the page quickly when at the end of the page of a thread, click the link near the bottom, right hand side of the page that says, "Top".

Hope that helps!

Is this really ta tah?

Do you think tothemax is actually reading any of this. Or is ta tah final?

I'ts kind of like a funeral thread if there is such a thing. Do you think some of these posts could be like dancing on someone's grave - in a digital sense?

Would it be rude to now post a music video here?

I was tempted but thought that may be a bad thing. If I was to post a video clip here I think I'd post David Bowie - We Could be Heros.

That's such a good song.

It has been a long drawn out goodbye, no disrespect intended but at this stage I thnk "Hit the Road Jack" should play as we leave. :)

It can be done manually on most forums, including ASF, by inserting the QUOTE tags yourself, but I'm not aware of any forum software that does it automatically when you click "Reply With Quote".

Of course, that doesn't mean such forum software does not exist.

Simple Machines forum does ... Its pretty good. Heres an example of it joehttp://sfcu.com.au/smf111/index.php

Im not a Sydney FC fan ... but they have what i think is the best forum for football and general crap in aus.

Obviously when it comes to talking stocks I prefer to come here though :)

LifeChoices,

If you don't like going to the last page to view new posts, you can set it up so that newest posts are at the front of the thread.

Click on "Forum Actions" on the toolbar, click on "general settings" and scroll down the page to "Thread Display Mode" where you can select "Linear - Newest first".

The function is explained here: https://www.aussiestockforums.com/forums/faq.php?faq=vb3_board_usage#faq_vb3_thread_display

Another stock market forum requires the use your own html code to format anything other than plain text. No ability to even quote something out of the last post. By comparison, ASF is way ahead...:D
