I've gone off the whole organ transplant thing since hearing the news about Deryn Hinch getting a liver transplant after years of alcohol abuse.

Why can't people just die, like they are s'posed to - always people interfering.

I'll leave him my liver. Unfortunately I would have no way of knowing if he makes it off the operating table. I suspect his old one would have more longevity prospects than mine.

Me too. When we're about to draw our last breath, the best we can hope for is to think to ourselves that we've actually lived an interesting life and not just passively existed.

Derryn Hinch has done this and in the process has stood up for stuff he believed in.
That's more than many of us do with our apathetic attitudes.

I hope the new liver gives him many years of healthy (ish?) living.

Yes, I would. If my organs have any use to anyone else, so be it. They will only rot or be turned to ash so may as well help give someone else a life.

And it is likely that someone as old as Hinch might get an older, but healthy, liver that they may not deem so suitable for a younger person. But, I'm not sure how they work out the priorities of those waiting.

And, if Hinch comes through this OK, he will probably help considerably with the organ donation program. I have been to a thanksgiving service, which used to be held annually in Brisbane where the recipients come together in acknowledgement and grateful thanks to the donor families.

It was a very moving service and to see some quite young children alive with donated organs is something I will never forget.

We don't have any say in who gets donated organs, but there is a good chance that something will go to an extremely deserving person. Once brain dead, the organs have no further use without donation, so I reckon it's worth leaving them for others.

Derryn has certainly lived a pretty good life. I'm just glad it wasn't my liver that made him live longer. Now that he's well, they should lock him up for what he believes him.

Why not stick him in the same wing with some of the pedo's he's named and shamed.

What has he done to deserve that harsh treatment? Do you know just how sick pedophiles really are?
If anyone is denied life saving support it ishould be people like pedo's that inflict their rot on other unsuspecting victims, imo.

To cook liver, coat liver in flour salt/pepper mixture, chop onions, put aside. Mix up 3/4 cup broth of your choice. Mix 1tsp brown sugar in broth. Cook liver for 30 seconds each side. Put in onion and broth, cover and put heat to low and cook for 35min. It will be so tender you won't need a knife ... serve to Derryn.

I find Derryn annoying as all hell, and I actually admire him for his drive - especially during the last few months.

I would hazard a guess that you are a wine buff. Please see another thread for their repetitive strain tendencies.

I generally find goon better when posting as when the dark gloom of sobriety descends, with it's attendant remorse, there is usually 750ml left in the cask, to put things in their proper perspective.

I am sure ole Derryn would agree. He does post here under a pseudonym, and he would understand.

I enjoy your posts and certainly do feel you are being overly hard on yourself.

Exercise is good for the blues, so go for it, and Derryn is a big boy, and has upset more people than you ever have, I would wager.

Also stay off the piss if you are down, my quack tells me it makes depression worse.

I'm not an alcoholic though, I drink less than my doctor.
