I watched BBC earlier tonight and their UK spokesman a Mr.BrownLee said the company knew the accelerator peddle was a 'quality' issue rather than a
'safety' issue back in 2008! :eek:

And they have just recalled 3.8 million of the worldwide already that included 2007 to latest Camry. Look out Toyota, you're in deep doo-doo in the Good Ol US of Lawsuit.

I'm expected a 1971 Ford Pinto UK House of Lords outcome on this one. But this time in a US court. :bonk:

Reporting from Washington - Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on Wednesday advised drivers of Toyota vehicles recalled because of sudden acceleration problems to stop driving them and take them to a dealer for repairs.

His comments to a congressional committee reviewing the agency's proposed 2011 budget came after LaHood told reporters that U.S. officials would look into complaints about problems with brakes on Toyota's popular Prius hybrid sedan after reports that Japan's government has asked the company to investigate the issue.

LaHood also strongly defended the actions of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which reports to him, in the investigation of sudden acceleration due to gas pedal problems in several models made by Toyota that has led to a massive recall by the company. During a breakfast with reporters here Wednesday sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor, LaHood's staff distributed a 2 1/2 -page handout that included a timeline of actions by the NHTSA since March 2007 on the issue.

The Pious is an expensive bomb.

Give me a petrol driven car anytime.

I hate the goddam things. they are ugly, expensive and uneconomical.

I believe the prius was recalled for the following reasons;

it looks like sh#t

it takes an eternity to reach 100km/h

it is driven by tools

it has a typical jap car interior, uninspiring and uncomfortable, no sense if style

is overpriced



Aston Martin will be soon bringing out a hatchback that is actually cheaper than the prius!

Btw: German cars are the best!

I had an European car (peugeot). Wouldn't buy another euro car again. Parts cost too much, too many problems.
My mechanic said they're not good because in Europe they use salt to get rid of the snow on the road and he finds that alot of the older models have major rust on the bottom of their cars
 
Most Prius owners are in for a $5000 shock when they need their batteries replaced. You could get a new petrol engine for that!

seem to recall Oz motoring groups NRMA, RAA, etc a couple of years back determining that on a ZBB (zero based budget) that highest total cost per km travelled was Prius - depreciation, maintenance fuel etc over a few years
don't know how/if that has changed of late - expect not.

but think of the feel good factor in 'helping the environment' - a lot like solar power sitting on your roof and "maintenance free' - try a ZBB analysis on those puppies

Agree, and you got to dig up the equivalent of a football pitch just to make the batteries.

KRudd should have discussed that piece of junk at Copehagen :D

The fallacy behind the low emissions of the Pious have finally been exposed, the very week that they have found to be dangerous vehicles to drive.

The bloody brakes don't work. Although in a Pious you probably would bever get to a speed that you couldn't down clutch to stop.

Do any politicians drive a Pious?

I`ve owned 4 Toyotas in various guises, the latest a corolla, 6mths old.

Did a country trip 1350 km. @ 6.2L/100 km. Solid as. Could get better but experience keeps me with the Toy.

Thought about the Prious but there`s nothing worse than feeling like a twerp behind the wheel. Besides I could never even think of putting the standard `I`m a greenie`under my **** for all to see, although I do have a compost bin and piss over the balcony to save the flush.:D

I can relate to what you are saying BuckFont.

When a student I had a 70's model Toyota. I clocked the odometer on it twice.
It was a self-maintained bulletproof "****box". But it got me from A to B. I used to melt the electrics on it regularly as the radiator would overheat on a regular basis. To counter-act this I would get cheap wire to reconnect the demister, wipers, indicators, radio, interior light etc.. melt and crimp the connections DIY style. Eventually sold it to an old bloke from Greece for $200, but had to use my multi-meter to prove to him that my DIY technicolor electric work was actually sound.

But this whole Pious thing is another issue entirely. :rolleyes:
 
Just watching Bloomberg this hour. There is a reporter covering the Toyota story his first name is Jerome.

Why don't these pussies at Toyota come out and say that the cars they made have the potential to endanger life?

They sell products around the world, which many of them in the past (don't get me wrong) have been reliable and good quality but now that they have ****ed up. They don't have the intestinal fortitude to say it. It's like the indifference to WW2 war crimes once again. Japanese powerbrokers don't want to lose face. What cowards! :mad:

The head of Japan Toyota needs to say something! IMVHO

Toyota Motor Corp. said it knew previously about complaints related to the brakes of its Prius hybrid car and Thursday expanded a safety probe to all its hybrid models, overshadowing surprising profit growth in the last quarter and expectations of a profit for the fiscal year.

The Japanese auto maker said it found and corrected problems with its new 2010 Prius hybrid and said it did not try to "cover up" the glitch. But the disclosure and the expansion of its investigation to include such models as its Lexus HS250h and Sai luxury hybrid sedans comes amid intensifying government and public scrutiny of the world's No. 1 auto maker by vehicle sales.

Still waiting on a globally-significant response and apology for consumers.
