What's the best advice you ever got from someone?

Not strictly talking trading here, just curious too se what ASFers have to say

I remember when i was about 15 working my first job, and my boss went off at me and preceded to lecture me, he went on to say "mate, remember to work smart not hard", I remember this like it was yesterday, always stuck with me, and think about it often (not saying hard work doesn't equate to success, you get the idea tho)

ie put 10% away from everything you earn before you pay anyone else.

When i was around 16 years old my next door neighbour said to me
"I don't want to hear you say you'll do it next time, just do it now. I've got plenty of friends who have the 'i'll do it tomorrow' attitude and they get no where in life."

When i first started working fulltime a few years ago the accountant told me "I want to see 'the can do' attitude from you".
There is nothing worse when you hear other people complaining at work that they cant do something, even though they haven't even attempted trying. It's like they don't even give themselves the chance.

Yeah I like that, that is one of the best things I have received too while I was growing up, my father and his friend said to "do it now, whatever you want to do, just do it now, because it will seem like 2 weeks and you'll be 40". So true for me, just look at this year, cranking through it, gotta get out there and do the stuff you want to do, I've always wanted to be one, that when I'm old and frail, that I can say "I did this and that, had those great experiences and adventures" rather than "I WISH I had done this or that, but never got around to it".

Best thing for me, was probably "Stick at it". very simple, but boy has it paid off.

It helps when you daydream alot and live in the future

During the first year of my first job after leaving school, I got caught out using the boss's workshop during work hours for a little personal job. "Don't bite the hand that feeds you", was the part of his subsequent lecture that always stuck in my mind.

1. Happy wife, happy life.


2. You can buy a persons times, you can buy a person presence. You can even buy a certain amount of physical muscular movements per hour. But what you cannot buy is a persons loyalty, enthuisiam, there hearts, souls and minds.
These things you must earn.

Many but a few I remember

(1) Become an expert at something,doesnt matter much what it is but when you do people will beat a path to your door!
(2) Who is the smarter he with a degree or he who employs those with a degree?
(3) The best time to buy Property is today!
(4) Understand the Pareto Principal.
(5) He with the money rules.
(6) Understand Risk in all areas of life.
(7) Know when to holdem and know when to foldem in all walks of life.
(8) You have a choice.
(9) Anyone can be a bum--just look around.
(10) Worry about your lot not everyone elses.
(11) Life its ALL about relationships personal/family/business/etc.
(12) Live everyday like its your last--one day it will be!
