For the romantics on ASF, just how did you propose to your sweetheart or how were you proposed to?

I'm planning to ask my wonderful girlfriend for her hand in marriage later this year and have been like a sponge the last few weeks, absorbing advice and ideas. Since I've been having a hard time figuring her ring size and all, I've decided to collect 101 different rings that are associated with memories and events associated with our relationship. The last ring will be a promise ring - that I'll get her an engagement ring of her choice once I've saved enough (or be willing to take money out of my trading account, lol).

So before things get too cheesy, please share your stories. :)

Well I can't give you any ideas on what to do, but here's one for what not to do! (last night on the NRL footy show)

Haha.

Fatty: "That hasn't gone that well...".

Guy: "I told my mum to record it...".

Should've taken her to a restaurant instead.

Front of the WB Holden ute listening to AC/DC sitting down the wharf eating a hamburger. "So .. I should make an honest woman out of you, we should get hitched then hey?" Real romantic. Wasn't until much later in life when the good times rolled that I showered her with shiny baubles called "EXPENSIVE JEWELLERY"

Right in the middle of "She's got the Jack" as well !! Pffffffffffttttttt .. I have no idea as to what came over me?

Hey El Chupinabre .... why 101 different rings that are associated with memories and events? Is this how many "good times" were had?

I still reckon expensive restaurant, flowers and champagne delivered to table, wait until she "excuses herself to powder her nose" and drop ring into champagne flute. Corny I know but effective. Unless she swallows the golden handcuff? Which could be tricky to retrieve later !

LOL
reminds me of this one ts, (you gotta watch this one, only 20 seconds)
(speaking of dropping things into the champagne flute ( nice tactic btw)...

PS Personally I just drew a picture of an engagement ring - bludy great yellow sapphire (no resemblance to the final ring) - was too bludy expensive to buy one "just on speck".

That is an absolute classic, but would not recommend giving a smile that way.

Proposed at a restuarant, which was closed down a long time ago. So pick a good restuarant that will be around a while. Would have liked to have gone back there for an anniversary or two.

Keep it a simple romantic surprise - some of the proposals I have heard seem more focussed on gimmick and showmanship. There is plenty of time to do elaborate surprises years after you have tied the knot.

her dad owned a brewery

i put out on first dates

there was no more need for words we just went ahead and got elvis to marry us

GF throwing up and sick as a dog, so took her to the doctors.

Doctor asked if we had considered she may be pregnant.

Official test later and whammo (mind you she went through a couple of boxes of home tests over the next few days). Thought I better do the right thing for us and our baby girl who was still a fair few months off at the time. :p:

Not very romantic but served a purpose. We are very happy now.

Sometimes I think a lot of drivel is placed in over romanticizing love and relationship, to the point where is next to impossible to meet expectations. Any business man/consultant can tell you that when you can't control a Client's expectations your in for serious troubles. Love and its parallel to the real life lah.

could be right bafana -
maybe we should do what the Indians do and have arranged marriages m8 ;) they seem to have fewer divorces lol.

An Indian friend from Singapore was hitched that way - and when his son is old enough - why he'll send him back to India to meet the girl that others have chosen for him lol. (albeit they are allowed to say 'no' - within reason). cheers :2twocents

If we were to have another 100 lives after this one, I hope to find her and be with her another 100 lifetimes...

And of course one ring for this lifetime... :)
