Anyone care to give an explanation of the word Love outside of the family connection.

Now I know this is an esoteric question  but some people need to hear this word or they get the poops with you .

Whats your advice please ?.

Bob.

love is doing something for someone that you might not like but you know they like.

Thanks Visual,
Wish it was that simple - but taken onboard.

Bobby,

Ask Tina Turner and she will sing "What`s love got to do with it?"

Love is a genuine feeling for someone. Only you will know what it is or how it feels.

This might not be what your after... and it's done the email rounds... but this is quite good:

*************************

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, "What does love mean?" The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:

When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all even when his hands got arthritis, too. That's Love.

Rebecca - age 8

When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.

Billy - age 4

Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.

Karl - age 5

Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French Fries without making them give you any of theirs.

Chrissy - age 6

Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.

Terri - age 4

Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.

Danny - age 7

Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss

Emily - age 8

Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.

Bobby - age 7

If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.

Nikka - age 6

Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.

Noelle - age 7

Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.

Tommy - age 6

During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore.

Cindy - age 8

My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.

Clare - age 6

Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.

Elaine-age 5

Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.

Chris - age 7

Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.

Mary Ann - age 4

I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.

Lauren - age 4

When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you

Karen - age 7

Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross.

Mark - age 6

You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget

Jessica - age 8

And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child. (Now this will melt your heart.) The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked him what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry."

Love is the feeling you have when you haven't seen your loved one for a minute or hour or day or week or month or year or ..... and you know you will be seeing them soon .... and when you do......

me thinks everyone here posting on a stockmarket forum between 1 and 2am is showing an unhealthy amount of love for the stockmarket and the internet :D

just kidding guys ;)

mrs frink would kill me if I was in my nerdy science lab at that time of night!!
maybe thats my story on love-
mrs frink loves me so much she makes fun of me for being a finance and computer nerd, and threatens me with violence on a regular basis.
She often threatens to punch me in my groin, stopping only when I massage her feet :D

man I must be whipped!

Thanks Snake,
Guess You need to love yourself first .

Whats interesting is the selfsexuals out there, think there is a site that they swap hints-- e.g. how to set up a romantic dinner for one, sitting on your own hand until it goes numb before touching oneself e.c.t.

Gee this is exciting stuff !

A romantic dinner for one sounds so weird. What do they do? Give flowers to themselves, telll themselves they are pretty, tell themselves they would like to jump their own bones...

Well just think of the advantages:

Breakups are rare,
Knock backs also,
Small talk is kept to a minimum,
Holidays are cheap,
&
You always get to do your favorite things,.

Wow what fun ! :blover:

Bobby,

I didn`t think of the monetary aspect.
No knockbacks and dominating the choice of what to do is inspiring.. :bounce:

Now thinking about the monetary angle, I could get a ghost writer to do a book for me.
Have to think of a good title ( any ideas ) ?.
Then after the book I could go on the lecture tour in the states !.

But first I need a title, so best to get one of those PHDs' in theology for $20 off the net.

Children never cease to amaze.

Not only insightful, but smart, profound, wise.

Whatever happens to us when we become adults?

Wayne

I think we lose our innocence and get bombarded with the bad/negative things in this world.

Thanks so much for posting those wonderful quotes from children.
Made me almost dewy eyed! Especially the last one.
I guess the childrens' minds just haven't had a chance to get cluttered up yet with disappointment and cynicism. Reassuringly, I do know a few adults who have managed to hold on to a simple and accepting approach to life.

Bob, what is love? What a question! Will have to think about it more to be able to put some words to it, but I do know for me it has a lot to do with trust.

Prof, thats called insomnia not love :)

Not long ago I came past report that LOVE is actually a commitment chemical that makes male want to protect female between courtship, birth and up to few years after that.

This is rather tricky, same as sex.
Humans like sex, and this makes them to seek partners to protect the species.
Same with food, so we don’t starve.

Of course hard to imagine chemicals to last 10 or 15 pregnancies, but this is probably more influenced by possibility of making to Guiness Book of Records, or just habit.

(In Lebanon ladies have spare kids, should some of them blow up, for example)
(same sex love does not extend the species, but with possibility of adoption of the same sex couples, who knows, an alternative anyway)

If you were to do an in-depth study
of the Greek language you would find
that they use four separate words to show
different levels of love.
Where in the English language, we use
one word to describe several levels of love.

The first of the Greek words used starting with
the lowest level and moving up is Eros.
Eros, is where we get the word erotic
in the English language.
It's a love that satisfies passion.
In it's strongest sense, it could be translated lust.

Moving to the next level in the Greek
we have the word Storgay.
It's sort of a family love.
It's a, "I love you because you are my aunt"

The Greek word used
in the next level of love is Phileo.
It means fond of, or I have affection for you.
It's that hey, were friends
so I love you, kind of love.

The fourth Greek word used to describe love
is the strongest level of love.
It's called Agape and is a divine, unconditional, self-sacrificing love

Nice book on the subject

Since positive relationships with anything or anyone enriches our lives, here's is a very useful book. 'The five languages of love' by Gary Chapman. There is actually a series; your child, your teenager, your mate.

Cheers
