hey people of ASF,:)
A mate sent me this link to a clock which, as it ticks by, tells you the world population growth, number of births, deaths, car accidents, suicides, abortions, HIV infections, marriages, divorces, oil pumped, cars produced, bicycles produced, people getting cancer and soooooo much more.

Obviously its worked out by past figures and estimates but it still seems strange sitting here watching a clock that (with each second that ticks by) you can see people die, get cancer, get HIV, watch species become extinct, watch people have car accidents, even how much oil is pumped..... Have a look its crazy.:eek::eek:

Click on the link to see: http://www.poodwaddle.com/worldclock.swf

Cheers:D

Thanks Mint Man,

I love it. Watching the number of births tick over and I had this image of babies shooting out of one of those tennis ball machines!

*pop* *pop* *pop*

cheers
Mouse
P.s. No babies were harmed in the making of this post

haha I like it.

using the 'NOW' feature shows up some pretty amazing results.

eg. for every 3 births there's more than 1 abortion. Without them the pop growth rate would increase by more than 50%.

great stuff mint ;)
here's a "datum" to work out the rates of the various parameters .. 2015hrs tonight

.....
divorces are up to 8,222,177 - that's an increase of 1060 in an hour

but the good news is they weren't aussies - cos you can't get a divorce at 9pm on a friday night ;) - although, lol - I'm sure a lot of wives feel like divorcing someone then

Hey there..thats not a bad link you provided either 2020 but I tell ya thank god there isnt any way of showing murders rape etc etc ...all that grimacing stuff on any of those clocks :nono: ...I'd be too scared to move :(

lol - hi natashia
it's just another version of mintman's clock ;) (I found it on the same website)

like that game the kids play

"what's the time mr wolf?"
"catastrophe type #6 time !!"

(You'd think they could add the number of jokes told or sumpin, yes? ;)

btw, here's the effect of 2 hours on those stats :2twocents

sheesh population up almost 9000 per hour :(

LOL yeah or something like who's cooking what or how much weight people gain and of course how many bottoms get bigger in front of PC :couch...LOLOLOL

I know its all based on averages and stuff, but exactly what species are going extinct at such an alarming rate?

well the good news is you can count the number of leprosy cases on the fingers of a leper's hand ..
(sick joke - apologies - I think I have Barry Humphreys to blame for that one )

temp up 0.000001 deg C per hour
Species down 3 per hour apparently

Oh well they will have to cross their toes to get that right

ugh!! :crap: Better be good or Santa going to use my chimney for something else :(

ahhh -(doh) - when you go to that site - the stats have been zeroed to give "year to date"

eg species lost is down from a month ago ( 26,000 whatever) to 811 - because we've lost 811 in 11 days since new year :(

They say that Temperature is only up 0.00077 degress C in 4 weeks (since last screendump photo (back a few posts).

That equates to 0.01 degC per year , or 1 degC per 100 years.
Gotta feeling that that is being very optimistic compared to IPCC estimates :2twocents

like as for the "world temp" reading thing ..
it's not as if they have a thermometer out the back with a direct digital reading on the website lol.

:topic
Reminds me, you go to the Sydney Tower, and there's a digital gauge to tell you how far the bulding is leaning sideways due to the wind - so you ask em how does it work?

and (if they're in a candid mood - which someone was the day I was there) they'll tell you that it just measures the wind speed, and the computer converts that to lateral deflection of the tower ;)
obviously extremely approximate.
