Actually I have hundreds if not thousands of stories were horses off the track have gone on to do amazing things. Not just in terms of performance in riding sports but also just as much loved weekend hacks for housewives.
That is my job, the care of these horses feet and I see them every single day.
Most of those horses in the subject ABC report had been through one or several owners since racing hadn't they? They weren't taken straight from the track to the knackery! And I suspect never are.

They tried to shut down the greyhounds, and were always coming after the throrougbreds next

When you overbreed you have a problem.

One might make it how many don't and have to be disposed of ?

Maybe the Australian racing scene should be for Australian horses only.

At least more horses would get a chance to provide a return and there would be less wastage.

One only Aussie bred horse in this race is farcical.

We don't really breed stayers much in Australia anymore. If you restricted in Melbourne cup to Australian horses only, you would end up with a field of Yang yangs, unable to complete the distance. That *would be a farce.

As far as the purported overbreeding? I'm not sure if that is anything but a narrative created by the anti racing lobby. As with any primary produce, including cattle, sheep, soybeans, wheat, dragon fruit, mung bean sprouts, or whatever, there will be cycles of relative oversupply and undersupply which will self-correct by natural market forces. Because of the life cycle there is somewhat of a lag between Inception and the eventual marketplace.

Regulating the number of horses bred per year will not stop horses ending up at the abattoir, for at least a dozen different reasons. this is all nothing more than an extension of the virtue signalling, social justice warrior mindset, with a massive dose of anthropomorphism.

The real issue is humane treatment which I am 1000% in favour of.

My first 4 bet is:
4, 1 ,17 , & 6

Based upon my last few decades performance these are all but dead certain to lose!

Aussie horse won.
Well done Logique!
Thought I was a winner down the straight, but Miss Hale's horse kicked on the line. Then one of my horses protested against the other:( I heard F.Dettori got 9 weeks susp for that ride.
A win to an Aussie horse and trainer, can't complain

Thank you Vow and Declare :) :) :)
Well done, Craig Williams is probably the smartest (and chattiest ) jockey in Aus, any horse he's on should never be underestimated. Kicking myself there.

Trivia: when Craig was an apprentice my Mrs have him some dressage lessons. He wanted to learn some finer points on feel.
